PS3 future jailbreak, playing PS2 backups, HELP!
OK, my apologies for a somewhat not specific title my mind is a little wasted after all this internet searching.
Basically, I'm going to jailbreak either a 80gb 160gb depending on which one is suitable, What I WANT with my jailbreak is to be able to backup and play my PS3 games AND also be able to play my PS2 backup'd .iso's so... 1.- Which one should I choose? I'm already confused with so much info going around, I find myself now wandering this really simple questions, therefore, 80 or 160gb? 2.- I'm gonna do it with firmware 3.55, right? 3.- Before or After jailbreaking, what do I need for actually playing the PS2 iso's? 4.- Any extra comments? Thank you. Last edited by Jhodad; 08-23-2012 at 10:27 PM. |

1. Don't use HDD caps to typify your console, it confuses people as there are metric assloads of models with the same HDD cap. Please refer to your console's model # and http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/SKU_Models
2. Yes. For playing PS2 games use Rebug or Kmeaw. OtherOS++ doesn't support those natively for some reason regardless of the PS3 model's compatibility with PS2 games. 3. DVD burner. 4. When you're done installing your CFW of choice, get multiMAN or Rogero. Those file managers will handle your backup needs. |

Then they are compatible. You still need a DVD writer, or find a way to play from isos. The latter most likely possible with an emulator, but it's a Pulcinella's secret that emulation sucks. Last edited by soplica; 08-23-2012 at 10:36 PM. |

@Jhodad
1.- Which one should I choose? I'm already confused with so much info going around, I find myself now wandering this really simple questions, therefore, 80 or 160gb? HDD size doesn't matter. As @soplica stated, go by the PS3 model number. If ya wanna play PS2 games you may wanna look into a used backwards-compatible PS3 with the Emotion Chip. CECHA or CECHB model. 2.- I'm gonna do it with firmware 3.55, right? Correct. 3.- Before or After jailbreaking, what do I need for actually playing the PS2 iso's? Once again, I would suggest getting a PS3 with the emotion chip or; a CECHA or CECHB. If ya do that, Cobra USB would be able to play .iso from the HDD. 4.- Any extra comments? Research, research, research before making a decision. Good luck!

You should really look into getting a BC console and cobra if you're into PS2 games

Ok, I'm gonna get a little more specific, I'm aware of the compatibility and about the Models, just being around the internet got contagious and made me ignorant for a sec, ha... anyways.. What I'm really confused about is how exactly am I going to run/copy the iso's I've seen people talk about that USB just mentioned above and swap magic, I dug in a little on those and I can't find where to buy 'em here, I live near Montreal, Canada, OR, is there any way around those two?

If you visit Cobra's site and click on "Buy It" you'll find the nearest distributor to your location.
Swap Magic, search for their website and start there. ![]() I'm assuming you mean anyway around those two without paying correct? Nah.

I think you shouldn't get a USB, but rather a PS2-friendly firmware.
It's probably available only in USA (like most hardware hax for PS3), so if you live anywhere else you'll wait a month for it to arrive (and probably get lost at the post office because it was not a recorded delivery lol) or you'll pay twice as much for delivery in "reasonable" time as you'd pay for just the dongle. And no, a week's time is not a reasonable delivery time. Either way, if you're buying dongles, you're getting pwned by postal services. |
