I suggest you to talk with andreus, from XMBM+ project, he has an app that does this exactly, but also some nice features like backup/restore of the original files... and verifications checks on the firmware installed to avoid restoring in a different firmware

They have a git ---> https://github.com/XMB-Manager-Plus
You can clone the code and update the git with your changes, they are wide open to collaborations

Edit:
Ops, i forgot to say they was compiling the app for CEX... but i see no problem to make it work on DEX
And the app im talking about is the "installer" of this project... but is not finished at all (last things implemented was the verification checks and some main menu options)... and i think andreus is on vacations or busy

to me XMB-Manager-Plus is not a homebrew app, its just simple xml edited and rco edites etc . " nothink wrong with it " but im gunna make a hombrew app eg backup manger style if u get what i mean . not every is using the xmb manger plus .

also writing to dev flash on a dex is diffent to cex , if u not notice from other people mutiman etc cant write to dex dev flash so thats why im gunna try and make a hombrew app

cheers for the idea but im gunna try and do my app thing

If I'm not mistaken you can do all of those thing in MFW Builder as long as you have the directory it's in. DEX... No file manager will do it?

on 355 dex is no problem writing to dev_flash tho... either using devblind.pkg or multiman(elf dumper example/replace files)
but like u say, there are some differents cuse i could not found lines.grc and coldboot.raf in the usual place, if u can make an app would be sweet, also an dex-XMB-Manager-Plus to finish it off hehe
trying this on 4.xx with multiman, enables the write option but not working, if one tries to upload a file into dev_flash u get "denied" errors and on reboot it needs to check/recover the system, no harm done, i though let's give it some more dexlove/peekandpoke on 4.xx, lv2_kernel.self on dev_flash root noluck

anyway, ur showtime is running fine..thx again can't live without a little showtime each day

Spent 5 minutes to look at the INSTALLER they have in the git and you will see is something that can be used "standalone"

If you want to reinvent the whell, its ok... but be aware that your app probably will be pwned by the features of your competitor (the app andreus is coding)
Is just a suggestion, but dont refuse the idea before understanding what im talking about

I see you point. Hmm... a simple script would do. Just add the script and needed files to a PKG and install it. I have little knowledge on coding for the PS3 so someone else will have to do it
