Need Clarification

Can you play the disc version of a game for example Soul Calibur V after you use an eboot for the backup?(All my disc games are 3.55 firmware and lower but i doubt this will work...)

If you fixed the game to play by changing the eboot file, then the original disc will not play. Since it will have the original eboot file.

If you fixed the game by just installing a package, then the original disc should work. Since the fix would be in the Game Data, and not in the eboot.

Also, of course all games that require 3.55 or lower should work fine from original disc. Unless you update the game data patch, that would require a higher firmware.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. But I think that is how it works.

I could have just use Google but do you know if any of the latest fixes are in .pkg files? You will have to have the correct game region .pkg also too because its an original disc unlike when using an eboot which is region free for eur/usa fixes?

I recently broke my external hdd and lost all my games. So I have been backing them up again and getting the fixes.

I noticed some were eboot files and some were package files.

Like Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition, I used this package fix here.
Or there are package fixes here.

But other games like Devil May Cry HD Collection, the fix I found was replacing the eboot.bin and some .self files.

EDIT-I just found this thread. Some fixes are replacing files, some fixes are packages. For example, Ratchet _ Clank All 4 One [BCES-01141] CFW 3.55 Fix is a package file.

One thing I forgot. Games that need the param.sfo file edited, will not work from disc.
So pretty much only games that require 3.55 or less, will work from original disc. Since you will not be able to modify the param.sfo file on a disc.

Thanks for the information and clarification on this subject. Hopefully in the near future somebody will develop a way to access write permissions for a PS3 disc so that we could buy a game and just copy the fixes on it without having to worry about ripping the game through your PS3 first (causes stress on your system) and doing the same method.
