Questions about using a 2.5HDD with PS3

Recently I upgraded my Internal HDD to 1TB, So I got a SATA to USB case for the old 320GB. I was wondering if it is safe to use it on the PS3 with multiman. I know this sounds like a noob question. But the only reason I ask is the drive is USB powered, My other drive has it's own power source. So I wasn't sure it would be ok to use with the system, Or it should be one of those things were only once in awhile.

It doesn't matter what type of drive you're using IDE/SATA/SCSI, etc ... it depends on the enclosure. So you're put a 2.5" (SATA/IDE?) HDD into an USB enclosure which basically converts the signals to USB and back. Also, your enclosure is powered by the USB cord.

It will work if the USB ports on your model of PS3 output enough power to power the drive and the PS3 supports USB 1.0/1.1 and 2.0 specifications. It's safe to say if the PS3 can output enough juice to power your enclosure then you're good to go.

Also, there is no need to remove the USB cable only after shutting down properly. You can insert/remove USB devices into the PS3 whenever you like.

Now, if you're planning on putting your 2.5" HDD inside the PS3 and replace the old 2.5" HDD then that is another story.

Hate to be a stickler. But....

It is not a good idea to unplug USB devices, while the drive is working. It will corrupt it.

Well, that's a given. You can remove/insert when it's not active. Good enclosures come with LED's. I meant you can take it out whenever you want assuming the dude already knew not to take it out when it's dumping an ISO, copying a movie, etc ... I'm sorry if I expected a bit of common sense.
