So, I read through the FAQ.

Through several posts I now know:

1) I can jailbreak my model PS3 160GB slim.
2) I need to do a downgrade using E3 something
3) I want to use 3.55 because people are saying it's the best.
4) I want to dualboot so I can still use my 10 legitimate PS3 games I bought, online.

I don't have the time or mental energy to spend forever reading stuff. I want a quick fix although am willing to use my brain to do it. I don't want to disassemble my PS3 and do soldering and screw something up and then have a broken worthless PS3.

I already spent so much money, $400 for PS3, $700 for games, $700 for TV, I don't have enough left to spend hundreds more just to jailbreak. Ideally I want to spend less than $30 to jailbreak. Even if it is only $10 that is even better.


Ok so here is what I want to do:

* Play PS2/PS1 games
* Play emulators
* Do cool stuff
* Play backups so I don't get robbed blind by Sony or so I get to play games I would otherwise not get to play because can't afford to buy them all.
* Do more cool stuff.

So, where do I start?
What do I need to know?





I found this http://www.modchipcentral.com/store/...Jailbreak.html but that's $90, where can I get just the piece to upgrade not all the sata extender and other junk I don't want/need? So it can be only $30 or less total

Post your current firmware and exact model. If you are using any firmware above 3.55, you will need a E3 Flasher and disassemble your ps3.

* Play PS2 games: Slims has no backwards compatibility. It will depend on software emulation and many games run with glitches (or doesn´t run). PS1 games works fine
* Play emulators: with a 3.55 CFW, will be able to use any emulator you want
* Do cool stuff: Is a personal matter. You can do lots of cool stuff with a CFW
* Play backups so I don't get robbed blind by Sony(...): Piracy is not a good reason imho. But yes, you can download games instead of buying

Wasn't there a breakthrough recently where we can play ps2 games on any ps3? and you can run PS2 iso's with the cobra dongle..

A) I currently have the latest firmware on my PS3.
B) CECH-2501A is my model. Manufactured in August 2010. (thread)
C) PS3UPDAT.PUP tells me "Update data of version 3.40 or later can be installed on this system." (thread)

D) I don't want to do any soldering. Is it simply to take apart a couple screws, plug it in, and put back together?

E) I want to dualboot it. What should I do first?


I know PS3 slim can't play PS2/PS1 games. I used to have the fat PS3 60GB but my house was robbed and that's why I now have a slim one. That's why I want to jailbreak it (one reason). Because you can do it with a couple methods once you jailbreak it, usually by running the .iso file from the hard drive

Yes, you can play some games via software emulation (no ps2 emotion engine and graphics chips inside).

honestly, you would be better off getting a pre modded RGH hacked xbox 360 used off ebay or craigslist. it would be more in your budget, and you would get more out of it. to downgrade/jailbreak your ps3 and do a dualboot it will require you to open up the ps3 and spend way more than $30. you would also want to get a usb flash drive and/or a usb hdd for installing homebrew/patches/fixes/updates.

what u want is something for nothing....u want to spend $10-$30 for a e3 flasher, and u also want to not have to open up the ps3, in order to pirate and not spend money on games. well guess what, aint gonna happen. hate to be the one to piss on your hopes....
