So, how do I do this without losing BD playback? Do you know what the update did to my BD drive, why I can no longer rip blurays or games?

There might be one way around that but I can't guarantee it works : use PS3MFW builder to patch out BD revoke list update on the PUP you're going to install. Maybe you also have to patch out BD firmware update, but considering your issue is drive related maybe reinstalling BD firmware would help fixing your issue. So I'm not sure. EDIT : Keep in mind that if patching out BD revoke list update does work, you have to do that on every firmware you're going to install. If you ever install a firmware without that patch, 100% sure you'll lose it (that includes OFW, reinstalling OFW before another CFW is useless anyway regardless of what people tell you here, the only reason people think it's safer is because back when there was just the GeoHot jailbreak, it was NEEDED due to his jailbreak being a patch and not an entire firmware). Also, what version of multiman are you using?

I'm using the newest one, I believe, which is 04.05.00. I had the x.04.x version but updated it a couple days ago.
Perezb, is there any place I can read up either on the problem or the potential fix of patching out BD playback? It doesn't sound like a fix at all, and it seems that I might lose BD playback by even trying to fix it like that. |

I don't know about the details but the fact you used a recent BD updated something on your PS3's drive, that will cause you to lose BD playback if you reinstall a low (as in, 3.55 or lower) firmware. I don't know if you can even bypass this with what I told you, and you won't find info about this (I guess people don't update their CFW again after installing it) but I had this happen on two PS3s, and since it happens during firmware update, it's very possible that patching the BD revoke update on the firmware would leave your BD playback intact.

Thanks for your tips Pereb. I've gotten functionality back for ripping ps3 games somehow (disabled a few internet settings from the system settings menu, maybe that helped...)
So I'm going to stick with kmeaw for now, especially with the possibility of losing BD playback. |
