Hey guys, I just sent my "e3 clone" in return and will receive my money back soon. I am going to buy a new ps3 instead of a new "real" e3 flasher, and I don't really know where to buy one, I live nearby the capital of Norway (Oslo). There is about 10 stores that sells ps3's, but most likely these stores does not exist in your country, but I am sure you've heard about gamestop before, I might be lucky and find a 3.55 ps3 at gamestop, but from what I've heard, they update all their ps3's during some kind of process.
If so, I will just try to find one at another store. (Well, that's not really my problem now), my problem is that I don't know what to say, I can't just like say "I want it because I want to get on a cfw and copy games and play pirated movies" They will probably not sell it to me then (They might, all they want is to get money, but it's like really embarrassing to stand there and tell them that)
You guys got any suggestions on what to say?
Also, please do not suggest "Just buy one off ebay or craigslist as I don't want to pay twice as much because of toll and shipping".

I have searched for similar threads like this, but I haven't found any.

Gamestop doesn't update the new console ask for a new 120 gb slim , the highest fw it has is 3.50.
If you can't find it use this http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/SKU_Models for check via serial number the fw...

It has no sense to open a new console for update it... They can't... you buy a new pruduct made by sony not modified by gamestop updating fw or just simply power on the console they can t if they do it it's not lecit to sell it as new it's used...
Anyway i think ps3 has some seals as warranty that the console os new and never used... You can check it or just ask to gamestop if they update the console saying to them that you want the ps3 as sony made it

Gamestop once opened NEW copies of Deus Ex: Human Revolution (PC) to remove OnLive coupons and then resold the tainted games as 'new'.

If they had been told to update all their new stock by Sony, they will do so, slap on a security seal sticker and then warranty is totally up to them to uphold.

I used to work for GAME. I have seen this tried before.

yeah they do that, i've heard from a guy at the shop, they update those to 3.56 and here it was kinda clear cuse they wanna get rid of it and trowed some extra games with it and 1 extra controller = 2504B 1A 3.56 minverchk 3.50 = good deal lol
buy at ur own risk but that was the case here

I got 1 more question. If I buy a ps3 off gamestop, and then carefully open it (I got a ps3 power cable so no need to open the new one) then turn it on and check the firmware, if it's on 3.55 I will just keep it, but if it's on 3.56 or higher, I will just carefully put it back and give it to them and say "I never opened it". Like, there is no way they can find out, there is no protection on the ps3 unless the package paper which is easy to put back on.
You think this will work? Does gamestop have any regret date? Most likely they have 14 days like all the other electronical stores I know about.

Off-topic: I just found out that opening my ps3 made the "Does not read take in or out disc problem" I am actually pretty happy that I opened my ps3 as it was probably going to get ylod soon of all the dust, now my ps3 is as good as new

Yeah! I got a ps3 in christmas, it was bought off a store named "Elkøp".
I checked my version of the ps3 with minvercheck and it said "3.56" can be installed on this system. And my ps3 firmware was 3.72, well it didn't matter since the fabric fw was 3.56, but still, if it was 3.55 or lower I would've been pissed :P

this doesn't fly i'm afraid not sure how it goes in ur country, here with ps3's its not like with a game etc where u can return in let's say 7/14 days, for ps3's if there is something wrong with it.. the console wil not be accepted by the shop and u have to deal with the factory..maibe if u ask nicely and send a pic of some lekkere tetten they wil send u a downgradable one

for the christmas..3.72 one..they are sneaky and do that, btw why not just ask at ur local shop how old they are 2010/begin 2011 should be a good buy,a lthough it can be hit&miss, also on ebay i've seen lots of 120GB ones and like alexsius also claims those are a good deal, the 2504B-1A was 320GB and another thing to look at, if the console box is repacked with a thin carton box wrapped arround the old one..anyway have fun shopping, leave the misses home at the time u reach the shop the wallet is empty lol

Well, Is there any ways to destroy a ps3 on purpose but make it look like a accident? I might open the ps3 and bend the nor pins to **** it up, let's hope I don't have to :P
Why should I look if it's replaced with a thin carton box that's replaced?
Also, ebay is so expensive in my country, if you buy a ps3 for maybe $160 the price will probably end up at $360 :/
