Questions about dev/coding
So just a question, how does one exactly get into development for any ps3 hack related thing, I am computer science student in my third year and was thinking this could be something I could mess around with when I am bored but I have no idea where to start. Does the ps3 have any sort of command line or any way to view a more technical aspect of it? If so does it have to be a CFW before the process can even be started? Is their a PC program that helps with this process? Reading posts on the forums about EID dumps, eboot patches, keys, jtag and chechG and im just wondering how one can access and learn about all of this. Obviously im not going to just write a cfw or anything just wondering how one gets started and where to go! thanks

The best way to start is by learning a languge like C or C++.
Once you understand that, learn both PPC assembly and SPU assembly. from there you will understand the ps3's machine cord or the literal instructions the ps3 executes. I would suggest reading http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=40663 That link will explain far better then I can. Last edited by sbmotoracer; 08-31-2012 at 01:18 AM. |

When I first read the OP's question, I thought of your post.
:P Honestly Im amazed at the amount of work you put into that post. Feel free to write a AES or ECDSA for dummies post as well. :-) @zocheyado if you want to start learning to reverse engineer I would recommend first starting with reversing "regular" 32/64bit x86/x86-64 assembly and then moving on to PPC/SPU assembly. |

@sbmotoracer
- I think your first suggestion would probably serve him the best. Learn C or C++, C will probably go down easier, but C++ may be more suited to you(all people are different, if only a little..). Take a look at both, choose, and stick with it. If your serious about programming, it won't take you long for you to be proud of your work and accomplishments, but it will be awhile before you do anything of interest on the ps3.
