apparently its not just the "pure breeds" that are illegal. it is also crosses with characteristics that match pit bulls that are illegal too.

im far from a dog lover but i have never come across a vicious staffy in my life but been bitten by other dogs such as german shepherds which IMO are far more dangerous.

go to court if you are sure you can prove it. they cannot deny you willing to have it tested

Firstly Im very sorry for your situation. I cannot imagine what Id do if police tried to take one of my dogs away. Especially if its over a misunderstanding...that would make me see red. I dont even want to think of it.

Secondly doesnt your dog have papers? Did this policeman even care to use protocol and ask for papers? If you dont have papers it will be a challenge to convince a judge without a DNA test which SHOULD be provided in your case anyway.

This policeman is obviously not as smart as he thinks he is. Staffies do resemble pit bulls ever so slightly but it varies from dog to dog. It enrages me, that after you told him its a staffie that he doesnt care to think maybe you're right because they sometimes show the same features as pit bulls. He is obviously not a dog lover as he seems not to even care if the dog really is a staffie.

@japsander is right. If in court and you want a DNA test you shouldnt have problems getting one. I really hope you come right for the sake of REX hes a very good looking dog.

Slightly off the topic, where I come from the only time a dog gets put down is when it attacks and kills someone. Period. Not because it chose to be born a specific breed. What an inhumane thing to do in the first place...it truelly saddens me. My business partner has a big 100% pure pit bull and that thing would never harm a fly and all he wants to do is lick you and play with you. When owners neglect dogs, dont know how to raise, feed and most importantly SHOW LOVE to them, thats when they become naughty, anti social and start misbehaving. Its a proven and known fact

When the cop comes to your house, make sure that the whole thing is being recorded and stored safely. British cops' favourite past time is confiscating, destroying and disposing of evidence.

another way to go about it is to contact the local paper and explain that the police have shown lack of consideration and ignoring procedures and as a consequence are headed for wrongful outcome.

tell them that the police are refusing to see reason and if they will cover it.
tell the police that you have done this and you may get a better time of the ordeal. the police do not want their incompetence made any more public than it already is. be sure to give names of officers involved etc and hopefully the paper will contact them for comment.

Mate, first thing in the morning, go and see Animal Control in your local county. Let them identify the dog for you and issue a paper. You could also get the same from a local vet, who can direct you.

If its a crossed breed you dont have papers for them it could be its a staff crossed with something . I would just say if It is needed a muzzle on it then fine , when he's out stick a muzzle on his chops , it's only when he's out and about a small price to pay really . This happens purely because that breed is always in the media for biting or killing something or someone and it's the owners fault , unfortunately that breed of dog is brought as a status symbol ., and other people that know they are nice breeds lose out . what has the world come to.... when did the police turn into nazis. get pulled over they want your papers. hell even the animals need papers now. there maybe an animal rights case there, if a police dog can be elevated to policeman status why cant a pet be elevated to family member status(legal wise).

Even if it is not full PIT ? You get any new neighbors moving in around you l8ly ? I would tell them you gave the dog away or defiantly do it if you have to "America" if you have to. I know it sux but do it for the dog I have a PITBULL & that is a ridiculous law ,they kill the dog, wtf ! They should be arrested/jailed themselves for animal cruelty. Yeah they can be aggressive dogs, but the fact of the matter is they are not born like that. Every dog should be treated the same ,just as a human would be crazy to go & hurt shoot someone with a gun.

It is all because of people, who beat & raised there PITBULL to be a beast is why people fear them & it has come to this. The reason most become a threat like any other dog alike "THE OWNER" most likely raised the dog to be mean. Good luck i never even knew there was a law in the UK for this. If your dog is truly not a PIT get a lawyer & find a dog breeder to even make up, "fake papers" if you have to i would do anything ,i personally hate cops ,i sure the hell would not let them take my dog.

By the way our PIT is all Muscle & seriously strong,but never hurt anyone. Yeah she used to bite a little hard when she was small but not no more . Good luck ..
