hello ppl.
i want to buy a new ps3 so i can play hacked games and i want to make sure i wont end up with a unhackable ps3. i did alittle research on the net and found out that ps3 slim 120 gb models all come with 3.55 or lower firmware, and after alot of looking arround i found a shop near my house that sell that model. so i just want to make sure for last time (becoz u cant return stuff u buy from that store) is it 100 % sure that 120 gb ps3 will come with lower firmware then 3.55? i really hope that som1 who really understand about ps3 models can give me a clear answer. thanks for ur help !!! |

They were told by sony to update their ps3's to 3.56+. My ps3 had the fabric fw 3.50, but I ended up at 3.72 because they personally opened up my ps3 and changed the firmware on it. |

well thats pretty dodgy if they do that i bought 6 ps3,s 160 gig like a year after the hack and they all where on 3.50 or lower and why would sony be telling them to do that i am sure not everyone knows about the hack still even if they did isnt it against the law to tamper something that is brandnew ?

It's against the law yes, but like what the hell am I suppose to do with it? sue them? :P Things like that will be taken as a joke here. ************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* Just ask if the ps3 has been opened before and updated, or just ask if they update their ps3's. Well, gamestop only sells 160 gb and 320 gb now I think, so your best shot is just to ask them, if they sell 120 ps3s they aren't really a good company, which means they probably don't care to open up their ps3's and update them. You might also try find a pawnshop, if it's in your nearby area you should try that too ![]() I was in cypros once and they sold ps3's with 40gb 1.gen with fw 1.00 (I think) For 180$ Try to imagine how much a brand new jailbreakable 1st generation ps3 is worth :/ Too bad it was in cypros as it's really expensive to get it to norway

If they have been opened: (you will be able to tell by looking at the seal on the box) then they might have been updated, so I don't see why they can't open it again and hook it up and tell you what FW it has.
If it has been opened and re-sealed: they can always open it again, find out for you, and reseal it again. If it hasn't been opened: then you will know it hasn't been up dated. It isn't illegal for them to update the consoles but they also should tell you straight. I have witnessed companies being asked that existing stock to be updated to prevent piracy in the past.

How can you see if it's updated or not? I really need to know, I tried to search, but it didn't seem to give any results. Is it something with the box? They might just re-seal it completely so it's not possible too see, I don't really see why they wouldn't do that, or just give the ps3 a new box. Thanks

retailers dont get given spare boxes to reseal consoles. They use their own seals to enforce their returns policies.
If a console has been opened its pretty obvious. They need to hook up the console and go to settings> system settings > system version. If they are a decent game retailer they will have a way to test this for you. Takes less than 2 mins to unbox test and repackage. I did this a squillion times a week at GAME.

What am I suppose to say, that I want to check the system version? Do you think gamestop update their ps3's? Didn't you work at game and personally saw that they updated their ps3's? Is there any ways to buy it, check the firmware and if it's on 3.55 or less I'll keep it, but if it's higher I'll not, like will they accept that I give it back then? |
