From what I've read and been told the PS3 isn't missing much by not having the two DLC's.

Their games on Xbox 360 and PC are basically flawless, but on PS3 they are infested with a billion bugs, 2 + 2 = what ?

Looks like consoles are slowly getting out of business.
PS1 days were the best

Come on! greg..xD flawless on pc?!? I played all of them and i still do i have to go to skyrim-wikia (and try to avoid spoilers lol) from time to time because some side quest gets stuck for no reason at all (or an NPC replying the same thing over and over again) then i have to bring down the console and make a proper *fix* on the fly.

You know that, fallout series had the same issues but Skyrim..oh god, even main quests were ****ed up.
Almost smash the monitor one time....

The PS3 has a strange architecture. Most modern machines are symmetric-multiprocessor (SMP). That means programming is very straightforward - all the processors share the same memory space and each processor can do any work you like, so you just have to worry about the normal threading issues (race conditions, deadlocks, etc.) but it's otherwise just standard multithreaded programming.

The PS3 is not SMP - it has one main processor with 256MB of non-video RAM (a big chunk of which is reserved for the OS) and a lot of smaller coprocessors that have very limited RAM (256K). If you can fit chunks of work nicely into 256K, then the thing screams. If you cannot, then you have to do most of the work on the main processor, in less memory than is available on the Xbox360. In other words, you've gone from 6 hardware threads on the Xbox to 2 on the PS3. The combination of less general-purpose processing power and less usable main memory is a really hard problem to solve.

Now, for a lot of games, the Cell is great. Fighting games, puzzle games, art games, ARPGs, JRPGs, platformers. Any time you can offload individual character animation or rendering to the SPEs, you win. The PS3 can animate and render a whole lot more mobs in a scene than the Xbox360 can. If you have a physics calculation like waves on water or swarm movement that is easily separatable into small chunks, the PS3 is also superior.

But think about an open-world game - especially one with the sort of wide-open spaces and anyone-can-go-anywhere gameplay of Skyrim. We did open-world games and we constantly had trouble because physics and AI could interact over a long distance. We broke the world up into cells and aggressively limited the range of some computations to avoid this problem, but still, a lot had to run on the main processor because once the size of a physics calculation or a pathfind exceeded 256K, you couldn't do it on the SPEs. And believe me, pathfinding data alone in an open-world game is always going to be larger than 256K! AI in modern games is expensive, and we know that Bethesda takes their AI very seriously.

Maintaining a large, persistent world also means keeping track of lots of stuff, and that means memory. On the PC, you have practically unlimited swap and tons of main RAM, so it's not an issue. On consoles you have limited RAM and swap space and fragmentation can kill you if you dead. To be honest, I'm surprised the game runs as well as it does on the Xbox360, but again, you have more memory there and they have the ability to "steal" RAM from graphics if they need it, whereas you can't on the PS3.

So while I wish Bethesda had overcome the technical hurdles and made the game workable on the PS3, I can hardly fault them for coming up short. It's just not a platform well-suited to the type of game Skyrim is.

You are sounding like a Sony fagboy, as i said i have played Bethesda games on the 360 and PC and i have had ZERO problems, the ONLY time i have had problems is when i have used my PS3.

Nah just pointing from my experience on PC i don't see a sony fagboy detected.
I only see bugs and fixes.
If the DLC eventually gets released, you will see the sony fagboys posts full of anger all over the place.

@bubbleboy PS3 is superior in some ways and cannot handle Bethesda games in a proper way....I won't blame the studio for this one.

Thanks for understanding so i suppose at end of day it is a processing/ram issue so no amount of coding can compensate for the self imposed bottleneck of sony's design so nutty though since skyrim to my knowledge is playable on Ps3

Ironically i play on 360 have the dlc can't play it because of a known bug in the middle of very first quest since i didnt realize what happened at first i have no recent earlier saves and must one day play another char and start over to even play it (no big deal but it seems forever broken for that char)

@SeanP2500 On xbox360 the patch will be released soon...(i think) idk what will happen with PS3.
Seem that Havok and Creation engine delivers undesired results on PS3.
Phsyics kills everything specially hardcore ones like skyrim have. (fallout, etc)

Bethesda is a good company when it comes to creating idea, environment , story and gameplay element...their games are unique...but have to admit they are bad at coding..iam not saying this because of skyrim's ps3 version.. i have bad experience playing fallout in pc also...
Fallout new vegas had lot of bugs in pc version...some were game breaking...ive never played fallout in ps3..so i dont know much about it...
oblivion played nice on ps3 because 4j studios coded for ps3...
skyrim i played both in pc and ps3..my laptop with normal configuration is able to handle skyrim fluid..but my ps3 cant...ps3 version looks and plays so bad it strained my eyes just after 15 minutes of playing...frame rate is always in 20's...and stuttering gave me head aches...

Have to admit that ps3 is very had to code..considering that they need time to code on all platforms...the fault is not entirely with bethesda...but they knew they had difficulty coding previous ps3 games like fallout and new vegas..so they should have selected ps3 as the lead console and tried to bring the best out it and ported it to xbox360 and pc...but they never took the risk..doesn't it show their laziness...or they could have outsourced like oblivion(4j studios)...
It's not skyrim alone bethesda ****ed..almost all of the games had various bugs and unfinished....but again adding to this is the insanely difficult ps3 architecture...
