The PS3 since FW 3.60 (or so) support 4K picture. You can see an application here:

The application is call PlayView (there are an RCO i need to found back for the wiki irrc)

But now the relation between this PlayView and the featuring 4K on PS3...and how it can be implemented on "video game" on next generation (and not picture) it s something i ll like to know.

You said about Sony not making it correctly, i ll agree but add it s also up to game company. The current PLAYVIEW work also on PSP and PSVITA but probably will never be use in real way it make the game different.
I think about the connection between PS3 and PSVITA (as controller and so with that feature, you will be able to zoom etc...) but it ll require more effort from the game company (so they will either not make it or sell it as extra content and/or deteriorate the game for users who don t have extra hardware) and same will go for WII U (because most of the game will be probably only ps3/xbox port) and next generation. So 4K will be only use for size display or 3D.

I think it is quite possible for PS4 to support 4K resolution. But I think that many game will not take full advantage of it. Maybe some exclusive playstation games.

Sony doesn't care about you so I doubt they care about proving you wrong and as @Cheesethief said, with 4K resolution's, we will finally have games at 1080p+ and that includes 3D games.

I know it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it, but if I know I'm never going to use it or be able to take advantage of it they way I want to, then why should I care about having it.

I suspect they will spout these figures and then (possibly) drop them down, or rather not fully utilize them in future...

Whatever happened to those game you could play on 1 TV between 2 people at different viewing angles? Wasn't the resolution uber high then split in half to allow 2 screens to be interlaced? I thought that was for PS3?
