(That and, on NOR consoles, part of the firmware is stored on HDD)

Xbox 360 didn't necessarily need an HDD as it could save on external devices.
And you know, when you run a Live/OS (CD/USB) version it's not needed to have an HDD, as it runs all externally via CD or USB device. Thanks for the response. Last edited by fanboysarestupid; 09-05-2012 at 09:22 AM. |

![]() I'm sorry for sounding like a noob but could you go into more detail about FSM. I do appreciate the help ![]() Edit: I read FactoryServiceMode Tool v0.2 - The Non-Dongle Factory/Service Mode Solution from PSX-Scene to use this I would need to be able to get to the XMB correct? I have another idea what if I use a modify fw or something like that, can I get pass the loop that way or will this possibly brick the ps3? Just thinking of idea while I wait for a new HDD to arrive. I don't think it is the bug I was talking about since I am pretty sure the bug was for 3.56 only. Formatting the hard drive shouldn't give you any problems normally, but something is definitely going on with the system you have. I can't think of the problem off the top of my head. Like I said, I think you can downgrade from fsm and then try to reupdated to 3.55. Don't quote me on this, as I have never downgraded a console without a flasher. To answer you question, fsm is factory service mode. You use a fsm device to put the console in service mode and from there you can tell the console to downgrade from the USB drive to a lower firmware., and then you can exit fsm and it will be on whatever firmware you told it to go to. Then you can update to 3.55 or whatever you wanted. I am not an expert on this , so I would do some research on downgrading a console using fsm.

Great new guys, so I took a risk with making my own firmware using PS3MFW and it happen to fix the issue! Now I'm on 3.55!! Thanks everyone for helping.

Glad to hear you are up and working. Thanks for reporting back. Care to share what method you used for future people with this problem?

I wasn't too sure what the other settings where on the program the only thing I check was "allow console with broken blu-ray to update" The blu-ray isn't actually broken just that the ribbon cable won't stay in place, the guy who had this before me broke the clip I though that I fix it by taping it down but I guess not :/ Either way it doesn't bother me now that I can mess with homebrews!!

Well, that would have been helpful information in the beginning of this thread. If we had know there was an issue with your bd drive ribbon, that would have been our first place to go to fix the update loop. You can't update without a bd drive unless it is wi a mfw.

I didn't know that the blu-ray was the cause of the problem, I just thought the HDD was bad I didn't get an errors just the looping menu.
