External 1 TB USB 3 HDD

Hi,

I recently bought an external WD My passport 1TB USB 3.0/2.0 HDD and even if i format it with fat32formater or EaseUS Partition Master 9.1.1 Home Edition in fat 32 mode the ps3 doesn't recognize it. When i format only 500 GB of this disk is working great but as a total of 1 TB i can only work it on my pc. My console is PS3 fat model and i already upgrade the internal disk to 500 GB. Any ideas how to make it work? I use the latest multiman 4.05

Try and format it with the format tool that comes with ps3 multi tools.

Set the allocation unit size to 65536.

That is what worked for my USB 3.0 Seagate goflex 3tb drive.

I am sure that a few people have mentioned this problem before and think it boils down to the fact that the hard drive need power from the usb.

It might be best to get a HDD with its own power supply

Try using windows to format it, or partition it with 2 equal size partitions using EaseUs both containing a gamez folder

Maybe try to use it with a USB 2.0 cable or use a small USB 2.0 extension cable? Don't know if it will change anything but it is worth a try. The PS3 isn't USB 3.0 compatible and USB 3.0 uses more wires as USB 2.0 so maybe it is going wrong on that part....

@playerkp420 i've tried but without success
@smartymarty07 they say that for the slim ps3, i have Ps3 FAT so no problem with that.
@Simonbuck with windows format i have no success either and as 2 partition disk the ps3 only recognize the first one and can't see the 2nd partition.
@OoZic i try using different cable USB 2.0 but the same problem, it doesn't recognize it.

Many thanks for your support all of you. If you have any other ideas i'd be happy to try them.

I forgot to mention i'm using Kmeaw CFW no Jailbrake or any other USB hack

It seems that the problem was the HDD, I've tried another 1 TB Seagate disk and everything is working perfect. I don't know if it's the specific model of WD disks that have problem with PS3 but just in case if anyone want to buy external disk for his PS3 stay away from the new series of WD model WDBBEP0010BSL-01. It's working perfect on PC but not on PS3. Many thanks to all of you who tried to help.
