Ok, I think I need someone who has a good conceptual understanding of the E3 flasher in order to figure out what is going on.

So here's where I was: I would put the system in ofw mode with any hdd and it would beep three times and turn it self off immediately, with a flashing red light on the power button. People have said that happens when it's overheating (not possible) and is the sign of a ylod on the rise. When in cfw mode, it would take a long time to boot, and eventually tell me the wrong hdd was in. As far as the tutorial, I finished the part where you flash the cfw to the e3's chip, and I did the first unlocking step (but at this point, the switch is supposed to be back down).

And where I am now: I put the e3 in 100000 and 110000 (fun flash for ofw and cfw), and flashed my 4.11 backup on both. When booting into ofw, I get the same three beeps and shutdown. When I boot into cfw, everything works perfectly. It has the Rogero logo, it says I'm on 4.21, I have all my hdd space available, and it's not in service mode. I don't know why that would be when I did the 110000 flash, but I guess I don't know what that does exactly. It seems like all I need to do is get ofw mode to work, then I can do the unlock step one more time and be good to go.

Does anyone know what that unlock step even does? I would try it again, but setting the switches to 000001 makes my system do those 3 beeps, so I can't do it.

1/ The 30GB HDD space on FSM is perfectly normal, it won't detect all your HDD in FSM, so don't worry about it.

2/ as @baileyscream mentioned, use Rogero 3.4 and not 3.5, 3.5 is a PoC and is buggy, it might even be why the dual boot won't work (I don't know exactly how it works but it might be messing with the BD firmware)

Alright, thanks. Sounds like a plan.

Look what I found...

Unfortunately, I found it while using my downgrade dongle on my system. Why was I using the dongle? Because I ran out of ideas. Anyway, now it's messed up, but hopefully I can get it working using this bit of information.

So this doesn't work exactly how I expected. I have both hard drives such that they both have Rogero v3.5 on them and they will both boot into it successfully. I assumed that the link in the post above means I can now try to boot into ofw (000000) and have it update successfully. Instead I get the three beeps and shutdown. So I'm assuming that I may have to update one of the drives in Rogero, but Rogero is spoofed to 4.21 so it won't use my 4.11 ofw firmware that I have on my flash drive. Is there something I'm not reading correctly? Or if not, is there a way to unspoof Rogero so it says 3.55 and I can use my 4.11 update?

Never mind about the last question. Apparently spoofing doesn't apply to the recovery menu.

GUESS WHAT, *****ES?!

This **** is in full functioning Dual-Boot Awesome Mode.

I would like to thank myself and the PS3Hax community for not letting this slice of hell get in the way of some awesome hacking prowess.

Seriously though. thanks everyone who replied and pointed me in the right directions. This has been a wonderfully awful experience. Goodbye and good luck with all your future hacking endeavors.

Haha well, seeing as it took me a solid 3-4 months to mod my system, I don't know how useful I could be to anyone. (Or if they would even want to listen to me...) But I have learned a thing or two about dual booting and I'll definitely be back here every time I have a question, so if I see something I can help out with, I'll throw in my 2 cents.

Plus, I'm a level 2. That means I can boss around level 1 users.

i know you have yours working now but can you give me a quick reply.

1. are you using the clip or the linker
2. what points have you soldered.(if your using the clip)

i have downgraded with the progskeet & TEENSY++ & E3 and i figured the duel boot on the E3 would be easy but as you found its not.

can you ceep an eye out on here so i can check a few things with you if i need to

thanks and i'm glad your E3 is working as it should

are you joking
you have learned how to overcome problems. my thread is built on that foundation.

so now you are able to a point help others with the same issues. and now you have more expirence you can build your knowledge and continue learning while helping.

everyone has a voice and everyone is helpfull in one way or another.

1. I only used the linker when I wanted to check some points before soldering, just because the linker is conveniently labeled. But no, I'm using the clip. I had to shave some of the side down so that it didn't bump into a transistor that some slim's have right up against the NOR chip, and I have a folded strip of paper giving it some pressure on top. But once that was done, it's been dynamite.

2. I followed the guide I linked to and so I ended up soldering the Tristate and A to SBE and SBCE (or vice versa, I keep mixing them up in my head). In addition, I scratched out the small lead between A and B, just like in the tutorial.

Now that I know what's up the the e3, I think dual booting from scratch again wouldn't be so bad. I was trying to overcome software and hardware problems at the same time and it was hard to know which it was. I had to whittle them down bit by bit, but I think I eventually figured it out. There are a few key differences that I had to do that weren't as stated in the dual boot guide I followed. I looked up some things on the ps3devwiki site and made myself a couple notes, just in case I have to do it again. I'll paste them below.

When using the e3 downgrade function (putting the downgrade .bin onto the sd card and using switch config 000001), the guide says to only put the downgrade .bin into the sd card. For me, I had to have both that downgrade file and my backup (bkpps3.bin) on the sd card. Make sure to have both files on there for both times you need to do that step.

After flashing the cfw onto the E3's chip, you might not be able to just go into ofw mode and create the ofw hdd. What you should do is put the PS3 into cfw mode and install cfw onto the other hdd as well (via downgrade dongle and usb stick method), so that both hdd's will now let you boot into cfw. Then, to turn one drive into a ofw drive, put the ps3 into recovery (power button method) and install ofw from usb stick. After this, you can finally put the e3 into ofw mode and use that ofw hdd to boot it. You can now continue to unlock the ps3 for the second time.
I get emailed whenever someone replies to my threads, so feel free to ask something and I'll help you out. Or if you wanted to make your own thread, reply here with a link to it so I can subscribe to that one as well.

Thanks for the good wishes, and good luck to you, too.
