I'm about to buy a new PS3 after my old one completely died and I'm not sure if I should get the upcoming 4K model or a downgradeable one. Is the scene complacent with 3.55 or have there been any rumblings of something newer?

I think 3.55 will be the golden FW untill the end of PS3's life.

Without more substantial key leaks I cant see a new FW ever coming out.

4k will be locked down. You should try get a down-gradable one. Good luck

Sorry to chime in as more then less a noob but, staying with these low 3.XX versions is going to run out, the fact is why are we "hacking" if we are spending 70 dollars on a chip that downgrades a ps3 for us. 1. make a program to do this thats free, if everyone made a effort and helped each other probably wouldn't be hard. 2. invest in 4k once we crack this no more downgrading brick problems, more stable patches, keeping up with sony. We need to keep up they will be adding alot in 4.XX downgrading will soon be gone with they will make a fix or rewrite things to where 3.XX will no longer work with the games or psn.
Edit: I saw the key leak idea, we can research this reverse engineer the patches they have to include the keys once you find them there you go, millions of games/systems are hacked each day everyone makes basic things; deob,key grabber, full data dump. This is what the hacking community needs

It's stupid to keep up with Sony's updates that was the main point in whatever way we do it as I said i'm a noob to most of this so I honestly could care less if it's the dumbest you hear all your life or just today.

By all means have a look into it.

If it could be done it would be being discussed more, but atm there are huge road blocks like mtldr2 and LV0.

I think sometimes it takes someone with a fresh perspective to tackle something people have failed to tackle in the past.

It would be great for those with 3k series/PS3's with +3.56 as stock.

TBH the 4K possibly has more chance of being hacked if it is indeed a toploader, and that could lead to something.

I feel if anything this cloud storage add on will be a weak point as cloud storage is new, it introduces a new way to receive and sent info with that there has to be security holes and that's where the community come into play 4.25 maybe the fireware we need

As soon as sony is done Updating The PS3 forever then Math will come out of hiding again and throw a CFW for a lower FW and Expect us to praise him till the end of time.

Buy a ps3 slim with ofw lower than 3.55 it s the best solution i don't think ps4 will be more easy to hack... They will never do the same error done on ps3... in this moment they have a "perfect" unhackable system..
