hey need help i have 2 ps3 tried to put the dex firmware im a bit of a noob and have trouble with some of this stuff!!
just need someone to explain or give me a guide how to do it?

Moved to help. Use the search function, there are lots of tutorials.

You would also need to tell us if you are trying to convert a NAND or NOR console, and if you are already on 3.55 CFW/OFW.

Ive got a 160 slim nor i think
and i think i have to be on 3.55 to do the dex thing?
but im on 4.21 and 4.20

Well you need to use MINVERCHECK in my sig to find out if your PS3 can be downgraded to 3.55.

If it can you will need a HARDWARE flasher to downgrade (E3, Progskeet, Teensy++) and a FSM/downgrade dongle. There is no software way to downgrade.

If your PS3 wont go below 3.55 according to MINVERCHECK, you are out of luck, you cannot have DEX.

to bad ur on 4.20, u'll first need a hardware downgrade like DEFAULTDNB posted, no other way arround it.

yesterday for testing convert another slim using jaicrab preloader, wow never used his stuff but this sure isn't crapware and works fast and easy, 30 min and ur on dex if ur on 355 that is, make software flash backup, rename flash, put on memorystick and load the self via Multiman, so for people not having flashers and on 355 u can test it, for going back i have not tested preloader again to restore, either way it worked great maybe old news for some, used to flasher tho, skipped some time without installing the e3
