A newbie question about legal or illegal to download a back-up game from community - PS3Hax Network

Yeah, as my title, I'm a newbie. I bough a downgraded 2nd hand PS3 and it come with cheap price, working fine, except the BD disc is stop working. I do not know it cause downgrade the system or the LASER got is broken. And with that, there no chance for me to play a game with a disc. So with my jailbreak downgraded PS3, I searching for back up game that ppl upload on internet. I always use crac3 and fix for many softwares installed inside my computer too. The truth is I'm not a rich guy (as you guys can see I bought a 2nd hand console with many disadvantage feature in it) so I cant buy all thing I want or hire any service shop to fix my PS3. All I do up till now is I searching for PS3 community on internet then download and leave "Thanks" comment or vote for the poster. That all thing I can do.

But yesterday, I post a thread in PS3 Help, searching for some advice to fix black screen - kick out game to be playable, and I got a comment say I'm a pirate. I somehow didn't understand full of this meaning (my English is not good as you guys can see in the way I writing here) but I do know this bro mean I stole and defy the copyright of the game, so he said that there are no way he could help me and either other ppl.

Now, I want you guys help me to know if I always download and play the back up game which I get from internet so do I have the right to be with our forum and post any thread discuss about games I downloaded from internet which not belong to me.

If the answer is YES, so I will feel sad but its ok if its our forum rule, I will find and discuss about my problem about back-up game with other ppl in other forum. I will only ask question about hardware problem or knowledge about PS3 here, never mention about any back up game anymore. I dont like the way ppl call me "pirate" even if what I did is definitely is wrong about Copyright.

And so, can I ask 1 more question that do all of out member here always use game with disc or back up game what they rip from their owner disc, and never to be something like "pirate" like me. I'm looking for the answer from you guys.

P/S: If ppl always this rich to buy any game disc they want and play with brandnew PS3, so why out forum still exist to bring us the way to hack, jailbreak our console, share EBOOT, fix, DLC, etc... I'm so confuse here.

downloading a backup of a game for private use
could be
a) illegal
b) legal for private use
c) illegal but not prosecuted in your region

It depends strongly on where you from. This forum is hosted in the us, so those law applies (could be hosted elsewhere i did not check it, often such sites are hosted in netherlands).

Yeah because of *easeweb and other hosting companys allowing easy warez hosting because of no real verification of ID papers. Also BREIN is killing that business

Everybody pirates in a kind of way, just don't talk about it here. Talking about it can bring the site in danger because of lawsuits from $ony and others. And we all want to enjoy PS3Hax for a long time longer

PS: convert the machine with broken laser to Dex 3.55 with peek/poke. This way you can use the BDemu way to make the PS3 think the BD works and has a disk in it. There is some explanation on this site about it. @svenmullet wrote about it as I remember...

The forums stance is that we are against piracy, but as long as you don't post links or say where you downloaded a game, then you are not breaking any rules.

But note that not everyone will help someone who openly admits that they downloaded a game of the internet.

So now I fully understand my problem. Sorry for to be an idiot to put the word "down..." straight in first place. I knew that Sony wont be excuse if anyone stick nose in their market. The way we do here somehow did that, so I understood and fully aware of what I will post next time. I always asking gentle and say Thanks and Like for anyone give me advice (even sometimes its not an advice but I still wanna thanks cause ppl spend their time to read my confusing writing English thread). So thank you all for your help!!! I'm very admire it!!!

I think it is not illegal to use the "internet" as source for your backup. As long as you own not just the copy. Problem is most kids who come here and say , yey i downloaded "RELEASE-NAME" how to i get it to work do give us the feeling they did not buy it.
And we want YOU to support those great game developers. And i am sick of those i am so poor, my coutnry is so poor comments.

Hey dude. There are alot of people who are pirates here...Im not saying Im one of them...but its not a good idea to say that you downloaded a game and want help. It makes people not want to contribute help to your problem because downloading games is a touchy subject here. If a game doesn't want to work and you need help then do this in this order:

1. Google. The chances are that if you use Google correctly you will find someone with a similar problem.

2.If you dont, then come to ps3hax and click on search on the home page and search for your problem with keywords

3. If you don't find any threads related to your problem, then post your question like you did the first time and leave out the downloading part as some people find it offensive I think

I doubt you'll even get to step 3.

But dont post novels (long stories). Just a brief (short) explanation of your problem and you must include the following:

-What cfw(Custom Firmware) your ps3 is currently running
-The game you are trying to get to work
-The backup manager (like Multiman)
-What the problem is
