If some sort of counter strike clone could be made with this, would it be plausible to add net-play peer to peer?

ofcourse, but the net-play isn't the biggest problem.. hehe.. there are some homebrew CS-clones already available, so maybe porting one of those would be a good learningproject..

But this may open up the porting of some opensource engines like irrlich or 3d-engine ogre (which itself is a base for many game-engines).

I'm already glad if some of the simple opengl 3d-games are ported, because you won't see any advanced 3D-game engines being ported anytime soon..

Hmm.. although now it may be easier to actually port the Quake3 engine.. Oops, I meant Doom3.. LOL..

ahh, and before I forget, how about the this week opensourced Torque3D (http://www.garagegames.com/)

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

@SuperDre whatever happened to the open sourced FPS engine that was reported on a few months (probably more like a year or so ago) back? The first thing I thought of was a CS clone for that. Here's hoping the doom 3 engine can be utilised, that would be great!

This is exciting news! Could this also be a viable way of getting XBMC to run on a PS3?

Don't count on it, XBMC relies a lot on VDPAU for nvidia cards (which the RSX really is), but the PS3 has such an old GPU which doesn't have VDPAU support, and doing it on the PPU itself is sadly too slow (just look at showtime, it also can't really handle full HD stuff unless it is Sony's H264 decoder compatible), but ofcourse never say never.. porting it to the PS3 was already done for linux a while back but it wasn't really usable due to the lack of any HW acceleration..
But if someone with some porting skills has the time and interest, there propably could be a port..
It shouldn't be difficult to get a version up and running as it's using SDL and OpenGL which are now available through HW-acceleration on the PS3, and there is already a PowerPC version which could serve as a base, since the CELL's PPU is based on the PowerPC..
