Thoght so, thanks. Ok, so I tried Unplugging the psu, and just for good measure, I removed everything on the top half of the unit, reseated all the cables and ribbons, but still no joy. What should my next move be?

Did you have it reballed? Or just reflowed? Because reflow is more of a temporary fix. It could be a coincidence that it YLOD again.
If it was reballed. I would say it has to be something simple. A ribbon or cable damaged or not plugged in all the way. PSU not plugged in correctly or bad wires. Or it could be a faulty PSU, try another one if you have one to try.

I reckon perhaps a cable issue. Double check all cables and make sure you didn't stretch out or broken the clips, etc

I don't have another PSU unfortunately. I'm beginning to suspect it is one of the ribbons. They all plug in nice and tight, the BD drive ribbon that attaches to the mobo is a little springy, but clamps down plenty tight. Which ones are most likely to go? The main one off the BD unit? Maybe the small one that leads to the power button? How bout this. What ribbons can throw a YLOD?
The only other thing I question, is that, even with a YLOD, shouldn't the drive at least take in a disc, when one is inserted, and the unit is off? I could have sworn it would, but my unit won't. Is that normal? |

A PS3 will turn on without the drive connected, have you tried that?

Just did. Still got the YLOD. Also, side note to a previous post, I had it professionally reballed, not reflowed.

do you have 12V at the bluray drive connector, the 12V has a fail line to one of the ic's.
if your fan is trying to spin on startup then the 12V should be fine. |
