Any n00b mmCM Creating Your Own Theme Tutorials?

I know we have plenty of tutorials here on Hax for example downgrading, jailbreaking, eboot/patch fixing, and etc. but none on this forum if I didn't overlook any.

The showtime redesign and it's plugins were the last things I had any hand in. Aside from something I left half done and had to hand off to someone else after some computer issues, my name most likely won't be appearing in any releases in the PS3 scene again.
Thanks for the compliment by the way

For making or extracting the .THM file the easiest way is probably mmTM_GUI 1.0 - http://www.ps3hax.net/2012/02/releas...ols-ps3-tools/
I've never used it myself but aldostools is known for making a variety of useful tools for PS3 homebrew so it should be fairly straight forward.

The post on PSX-Scene manster linked to is quite good but it hasn't been updated in about 3 months judging by the 'last edited' line. I'm not sure what's changed in multiMAN visually (if anything) during that time. You might want to FTP over the original_theme.thm to your computer and unpack it with mmTM_GUI to make sure all the file names, dimensions, etc are the same.

From there the easiest way would probably be to just open each file in whatever image editor you use, edit it and save it. Then repack the folder with mmTM_GUI.

COLOR.INI can be a bit of a pain to get used to at first if you've never edited colors in that format before. I'd save that to last or just leave it as default like most people do.
For fonts font0.ttf is the default for the theme. 1, 2, 3 and 4 are alternates so you don't really need to worry about them. Sidenote: Some fonts can cause multiMAN to lag.

SOUND.BIN is just an MP3 file with the extension changed. For example, rename song.mp3 to SOUND.BIN and it should work fine. If it doesn't play, lower the bitrate.

I don't know if this still applies but at one point all the files were case sensitive. So if you save AUR0.JPG as AUR0.jpg and it doesn't show up, that's probably why.

Personally, what I did when making themes was just make something simple to start out with as a base. Then I would install and apply it in multiMAN. When you apply a theme multiMAN extracts yourtheme.thm to the various directories inside /BLES80608/ So to edit stuff I left multiMAN running and just FTP'ed files back and forth pressing START+SELECT to restart multiMAN periodically to see the changes. Then when I was happy with how everything looked I FTP'ed all the files I changed back to my PC and packed them in to a .THM file one last time before uploading and sharing them with everyone.

I'm horrible at explaining stuff so it's probably a lot easier than I just made it seem. Just take it one step at a time and you'll be a pro before you know it. If your first attempt sucks don't get down on yourself, just keep at it. I know me and Condor have both looked back on some of our earlier themes and thought "WTF was I doing..." so like most things, it does get easier with time
