My definition of a business will not change due to the Laws that describe a business (in the USA at least). If you call your local BBA, a tax attorney or the Government (IRS), City and/or State you will find that anything you do on a steady basis (I'm not sure exactly how many transactions defines "steady") that generates income is considered a business. Running a Lemon Aid stand is considered a business (I know, it's very odd).

Now, unless you make over a certain amount of money you will not need to file taxes, but if you do make over that amount you will need a license to do business an pay taxes. Of course one can ignore this, but if the Government finds out you can be dragged into Court.

I count 7 advertisements on the main page of www.ps3hax. One being an video ad with sound.





Of course, turning on Ad-Blocking Software and using NoScript type plug-ins one can reduce the ads to nothing using filters and such, but for the normal "user" they will see 7 ads. This is why I am amazed they don't generate enough income to host the site due to the amount of traffic PS3HAX gets a day.

I meant no disrespect to Pirate as what I said in my original post is that Max and Pirate have greatly different business models and other then the ads being annoying they aren't bias nor does Pirate push products on the main page.

To address @GregoryRasputin reviews those are not advertisements. There is a big difference and if you call his reviews "ads" then you must do so for anyone who has ever reviewed or will review a product - aka you're dead wrong.

Off-Off-Topic:

I doubt that was the real Guichi, he got old (like the rest of you will) and his passion/hobby died and was passed down to xainiax who eventually sold the site. Both of these men got old and moved on. Just like most of these kids will go to college and leave the scene. Lasting in the scene has long as they did isn't easy. I never liked <G>, but xainiax was okay on his "good days".

PS3HaX is the only big PS3 news site, the others are full of sellouts, that are in the scene or own the sites to earn money and rip their members off, they are more commercial sites than news sites.

Pirate would love to run this site without ad's, but it isn't possible.

About money and scene, there are huge difference to make it from ads and from dongle. In the first case, you don t really mind about infos being release for free, when on the other case you will.

I don t like the idea of user making money on the scene (even in some case such install cfw for others can be seen as expertise) but in the case of dongle (Cobra, TB or the xploder thing) it ll make any infos (even to old things like ps1 iso) much more political (to don t say: lies, misleading,dramas etc..).
If everyone have theirs reasons to release or not, having drm dongle make the situation much worst than classic confusing internet users relations

About definition of "business" from @jennys ..
The example someone said about wife making small money for other reason than just profit is the good example economic teacher can use to explain for beginner.
