3rd. re-installing cfw wont loose your games as it doesnt format the hdd (trophies etc i think are lost) its just putting the same f/w back on over the one that is still there.

4th. qa-flag de-hash the cfw boot once its up and running then you can change cfw types without fear of getting the red-light-hash-fail
Rogero CFW already has the qa flag. I check by going to Network Settings and doing the button sequence. But I had installed the qa flag as well.

When I change CFW and then can't boot to OFW because of the red light beeps shuts off, I can't go into recovery in OFW

That is why I have to do the whole process again. I have been told this by others as well who Fast dual boot.

It is different however if its the CFW that won't boot.

I see what your saying but mryumyum couldn't just reinstall via recovery either as it was asking for 4.11 or higher firmware for his CFW hdd.
He was asking how to reflash it back to CFW or what steps he needed to take.

I am saying what steps you posted don't appear to work either for when you change CFW on a Fast Dual boot as then you get the red lights, even if you qa flag it.

But you can update OFW with no problems and still dual boot without following all steps again.

So hopefully mryumyum got it going ok.

Net yet. I was trying to be tricksy, but I did something wrong and I was getting three beeps and shutdown when trying to create my OFW drive after flashing CFW to NOR chip.

Anyway, I'm just going to start over again, but I was wondering at what point should I try to start using my original CFW drive? I was thinking that I should finish step 7 (flashing e3 NOR chip with CFW), and then turn it off and insert my original CFW drive. And then it should ask me to install 3.55 or above and I can then use my CFW via usb, right? And then I can continue to step 8 with the other drive and finish the process.

Well, I ended up losing my data on my CFW drive, but it's not the end of the world. I thought I followed your suggestions properly and wasn't going to lose any data, but that doesn't appear to be the case. I keep most things back up, but there were a couple save games that I hadn't done. Still, not a big deal.

What's most important is figuring out why it happened in the first place so it doesn't happen again. I know I flipped a switch while moving it, but I thought I had made sure everything was correct before starting it up. I wonder if unplugging it caused it to forget something? I've unplugged it before to move it, and it hadn't been a problem.

I guess I'll just be extra careful about the switches, so hopefully that's enough.

When I tricked it was after step 9 where you once again update to your OFW I then just rebooted with CFW switches in right place, and correct hdd.

This way my guinea pig hdd does all the work from updating to OFW, downgrading to CFW. Then switch to the actual hdd you want for OFW. Upgrade it to OFW, do the downgrade process etc., then shut down.

Now insert the actual hdd you want for CFW and it should load the same CFW as the guinea pig hdd.

Sorry to hear you lost a bit of data, but at least fckpsn is still working if you need to redownload. Doesn't help with saves, but oh well sometimes fun to restart games all over.

Unplugging it shouldn't matter. I only unplug it when I want to change from CFW to OFW.

But yes its important to make sure switches are always in correct position.

@ baileyscream

I redid my fast dual boot basically following kman82 up to/completing step 6.

Basicly same as yours and playerkp420

Complete the whole downgrade, then I did the qa flag step as in playerkp420 guide.

I now realize even though in Rogero you can do the button combo in Network Settings, it does not mean its qa flagged. So I did run the toggle_qa this time, and completed that step.

I then proceeded with the rest of kman82 guide and checking your guide as well.

I haven't tried another CFW as yet, but hopefully when I do, all goes well.

Thanks for your help and + rep to you and playerkp420 as well.

Hey hey, I did it again. But I figured out what caused it and how to fix it, so I'll post my findings so people don't have to go through the same crap I did.

Anyway, so what causes it? My eSATA cable has to twirl out and up to the eSATA station located on a low shelf above my PS3. The connection doesn't really put much strain on the connection ports, but it does sometimes torque out enough that it doesn't make a good connection (it's surprisingly sensitive to movement). So a couple times I've actually pushed it in when it wasn't loading like it should have been, and then it started loading up again. But I guess sometimes the PS3 does something a little more hardcore that, if interrupted, won't simply start up again when nudging the SATA cable straight. When that happens, you need to force the system off and restart. When you restart, it will ask you to upgrade to a firmware version equal to your OFW or higher, not 3.55 (or whatever you CFW is).

So how do you fix it? Leave the PS3 off, power cycle the eSATA station, turn PS3 on. Done and done.

If anyone runs into this problem, hopefully they see this post and don't go through the entire dual-boot process unnecessarily.
