Painting my PS3

I'm looking for anyone who has painted a PS3.

I am going to be painting my PS3 hopefully soon. What I want to know is what people have done in regards to the touch sensitive “soft” power and eject buttons. All the photos of painted PS3s that I seen have shown these buttons with the original black paint.

Here are the two aluminum buttons removed.
(shown with a US quarter for comparison)

I want to avoid painting the finished aluminum surface of the buttons. Has anyone bothered to take the time to paint these by hand? I've considered applying tape or perhaps rubber cement.

All serious suggestions or recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Any other replies could result in the "Mod Cat" coming for you.

I will post my results at completion of the project as well as the the methods I will employ.

I'm posting this to multiple locations to gather as much info as possible.

You can try using vinyl dye, that chemically changes the color of the plastic rather than having a overlay coat ontop of original.

Thanks for the tip Pirate. I've heard of vinyl dyes before, never used them and I had completely forgotten about them.

Vinyl dyes would be a lot easier than wet sanding, priming, wet sanding, painting, wet sanding, painting, etc to all the plastic. The buttons I may end up doing by hand with a fine bristle brush. Then again I could completely strip, paint, then re-mill finished face of the buttons.

If anyone else has ideas or suggestions fire them off.

This may sound fiddly, but you could place tiny bits of masking tape on the silver part of the button, then spray the rest...
