TBH, That guide was written when CEX2DEX was first leaked and there are easier methods available now.

So before you flash anything, I'd do a bit more reading on the various methods and then choose one.

The guide works fine if you follow it carefully. You may as well carry on but remember, there is always a rick of brick when flashing so DOUBLE CHECK everything. Good Luck!

id rather just go a different route i just checked through a guide and it has the same steps as 1-2. The only problem is that im on a nand and most of these guides dont specify whether it's nand compatible or not so im a bit wary

*sorry step 1 and 2 are the same

i'm just gonna stick with this tutorial but this "NOTE: The included 'dtbImage.ps3.bin' is for NAND users only! was originally called 'dtbImage.ps3.bin.minimal'" is not in the zip folder which is for nand

Minimal one is for nand thats what i used to instal linux
Just got to rename it to dtbImage.ps3.bin without the minimal part

Which isn't in the zip?
The 'dtbImage.ps3.bin.minimal'?
It's because it has already been renamed from 'dtbImage.ps3.bin.minimal' to 'dtbImage.ps3.bin' (has to be called .bin for Linux to work)

sorry it was a miscommunication i found it but i'm having a lot of trouble in the rc5 area. First off all the sda1 to 4 didnt work so i looked into mount and found something that said sdd1 so i tried that and i think it worked but i wasnt sure what to look for so i tried it again. The second time it says stuff like
"found disk storage"
"number of free sectors 0"
"creating new storage region *(117210240...."
"ps3stor_region: invalid option --*"
"usage: ps3stor_region [options] device command..."

doesn't look like it succeed. I rebooted also to see if anything happened but when i got back to rc5 apparently theres suppose to be a 'live-otheros' but i do not see it there. just boot game os, change video settings and exit shell.

in regards to the number of free sectors my usb has 1.08 gb of free space right now.

The guide is so misleading first off there's no "RED_RIBBON_RC5_LIVE" so I don't know if I'm just suppose to put the /live/ files into my root or what

Maybe ask your questions in the guide you are following. And use a mention like this @NightRyder but with the author's name.
That way, since he wrote the guide he will be able to assist you better. Like giving you files that are missing or explaining anything you don't understand.
