Sony releasing "special" BD movie discs?
I have a Blu Ray movie, Underworld Awakening, which apparently is released by Sony Pictures.
When I tried to play it on the PS3, it only said "you are running version 3.55 and need to update to 4.11" or some such crap. My initial thoughts were, how the hell would a movie know what and how and where I play it, not to mention what kind of firmware or whatever I have on my machine? So I examined the disc, and guess what.. Sony actually puts ps3update.pup and assorted ps3 files on a regular BD movie disc. How messed up is that? Sony doesn't release true BD Movie discs, but some pseudo Playstation Format disc. This reminds me of those cactus CDs and Sony rootkits back in the days. Is there any way at all, around this crap? Or should I just toss out the PS3 from my home theater system for good. |

Rip, remove that useless file and burn the Blu-ray to a Blu-ray Disc. Or play the ISO file on the PS3 if it's possible.
$ony and their kinky stuff. Edit: I think Dragon Ball Z Kai Part 8 Blu-ray had this kind of crap which made me update to 4.11 FW (I was on 4.00 FW). |

Nothing kinky going on ^
It's just because the MKB keys for the firmware below the one on the bluray movie will have been revoked so the firmware that contains the current MKB keys that will decode that movie is conveniently on the disk. ************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* Spoofer won't work because it genuinely uses a newer MKB version than is on current PS3 firmware if it's asking you to update. |

Blu rays were always supposed to do that. Even in regular bluray players

Ah well, I'll try a spoofer.
I don't have any kind of BD drive on my comp so I can't rip the disc. Too bad we can't rip BD movies directly on ps3. Btw, what is "the must have" concerning spoofers nowadays? |

There's no reason as to why Sony couldn't be able to add additional files to a regular Blu-ray movie disc.

Perhaps.
But all they do is screw over their own customers, as this only affects ps3 users. |
