Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum, found it looking for a solution to my problem. It is starting to look like my problem is not fixable. Anyway, I have a PS3 slim CECH 2001A something like that. It does everything that is expected of it to do except the most important thing which is play games. So I read around and the majority of people online seem to think the blu ray laser has failed. I ordered one from a reputable Ebay site and swapped it using my own logic board that came with my PS3. It still won't play blu ray at all, but it does play regular dvd's. After being fed up with it I gave in and took it to a local shop and he tried several lasers (according to him) and none of them worked so he thinks it is something on the mother board or logic board itself that is malfunctioning. He might be right, but I saw many posts online talking about a downgrade that might help. Should I just give up on my PS3 or does anyone on here see any hope for me?

Sorry I forgot to post that. Currently it is 4.25 and I know it was in the 3.? something when I first bought it back in late 2009 early 2010. I know this because I bought it after modern warefare 2 first came out which was back in November 2009 so it wasn't too long after that. Also I don't know if it matters but it is a 120GB hard drive. I think that covers most of the info on my PS3... sorry if I forgot anything else.

If you need a new logic board you will have to downgrade to 3.55 to marry it to your console.

Ok thanks, in that case i will probably end up using it to stream netflix. From my understanding the downgrade requires tools that will cost me about $115 and i have already spent $70 on a new laser. I'm not about to spend more money on this pos. Thanks for your reply.

The link is for the dev wiki page, most likely your firewall/av locked your pc not the page itself.

The link is about all PS3 models and the FW they have of factory... yours had most likely 2.70

As soon as the PS3 is downgraded you can convert to DEX and with DEX we use BD emulator. If you go to DEX 3.55 with peek and poke you can play all games because the PS3 thinks it has a disk in the drive (BD emu in that case). No need for a working BD drive at all

A new PS3 can't be downgraded at all, remember that

And Progskeet is cheaper and better ?
