i think this means the code editor has to be recoded?

@gingerbread
to maybe avoid this, open original st.dat with hexeditor "madedit" (freeware) and switch encoding to shift jis. then you will see original japanese letters.
this is btw a very handy tool to translate japanese games as it has shift jis as default "onboard"

to switch encoding in madedit:
open original st.dat in madedit and choose under view->encoding->shift jis
Thanks for your reply.

I tried opening the st.dat with madedit and changed the encoding to Shift JIS, no luck. I have even tried other encoding like simplified Chinese and traditional Chinese. Can you test them. Thank you.

Thanks for your reply and explanation!

Is there a simple tool where I can convert "?" to Unicode.

Once the Unicode character is converted to ? (Ansi) it remains as ? (Ansi)

So, it is not a "simple" task...
Thanks you.

I will try it out.

i will extract all japanese text for you from original st.dat. but translation is up to you

edit
sorry, but you are right. not everything can be viewed with that editor. maybe trying the old cheat.txt files. they do not cover all games i think, but most should be in there.

@aldostools

I am aware that you have mention before that placing ID column before Cheats could be a problem.

Could there be a workaround to make the program remember last window state? Since users are able to drag ID column and place before Cheats, will it be possible for a settings file?

Also, users are able to double click the Version, Cheats and Region intersections to shrink fit the columns. But when exiting and reopening the app, it goes back to default, which it great. But it would it better if the column stats are remembers in settings file or in registry.

If users want to restore windows state to default, they could simply execute/merge "Restore Default Windows State.reg". You could include the file in the programs folder.

Thank you.
