Difficulties downgrading a CECHC from 4.11

What model number is your PS3?
CECHC (PS3 Fat)

What firmware is your PS3 on?
4.11

Is it a hardware problem?
No

Is it a software problem?
Yes

If it is a software problem, have you made sure that you have downloaded the latest version of this software?
Have used the software from Baileys Ultimate Fool Proof Guide

Are you running CFW?
No (but i'm trying to)

Have you ever downgraded your console with hardware flashers? (Teensy, ProgSkeet, E3 Flasher, etc...)
Trying to with a progskeet

Have you tried searching the forum for someone experiencing the same problem before posting?
Yes

Describe your problem:
Unable to downgrade firmware from 4.11 following Baileys Ultimate Fool Proof Guide

What have you tried to do to resolve this issue yourself:

I am trying to downgrade my Fat PS3 in order to use custom firmware, the tools I have been using are a Progskeet V1.1 (the blue one) a PSgroopic ( self made using a PIC 18F4550) and a PSP with PS3JIB. The software I have used is the set provided in the Baileys guide.

My Progskeet is soldered directly to the NANDs, and I can unbrick my console at will with the dump of my NANDs which presumably suggests that this part of the process is all good.

Once the original firmware has been patched and flashed the PS3 boots up to a black screen as per Baileys description.

I then attempt to put it into factory mode, the PS3JIB shows a sent response followed by 'Done' the PSgroopic has the LED flashing showing that a response has been sent.
I assume that one or other of these devices has worked but there appears to be no way of confirming this.

I then plug in a USB stick (of which I have tried four different types in varying sizes and have used the HP formatter to format them as FAT32) and turn on the PS3 which powers up for a few seconds and then turns off without any beep. The green LED does not flash even if I remove the HDD.

Any thoughts on where I have gone wrong?

Thanks

You missed the model whether it's 2000 or 3000. Oh wait, it's a PS3 FAT? The experts should reply.

More updates:

Have continued to try and solve this and have further info if it is of any help:

When using PS3JIB there appears to be two different strings that the PS3 can send i.e. 00 01 ff ff 2e 02 01 63 96 fd
or 00 01 ff ff 2e 02 01 bf 1e 8a

It seems to be fairly random as to which one is sent by the PS3, is this correct?

I restored my original firmware again (4.11) and out of interest ran minverchk which reported back with version 1.00

If I try to run PS3JIB on ver 4.11 there are no strings received or sent. If I run my PSGROOPIC the LED flashes in the same manner as before and the PS3 remains with a blank screen for a minute or two and then starts normally.

Regards

James

Are you meaning PS3Jig? I haven't heard of any PS3Jib....

If so then your PSP must be on 5.50 gen D CFW for the PS3Jig 1.0 to work right.

Yes you are right, it appears on my PSP (which is running 5.50 GEN-D) as PS3JIG, I have however definately seen it somewhere written as PS3JIB. (and not just this thread....)

Once you have used your dongle/jig/development board to put the PS3 into the factory mode does it remain permanently in that mode until you use the Lv2diag.self file to return it to normal?

i.e. every time you power up your PS3 after use of the dongle/jig/development board does it look for an update file on the right hand USB port or is this a one shot affair such that once the update has failed you then have to use the dongle/jig/development board again in order to have another go with the update file?

Thanks

James

Once you enter FSM, when you turn your PS3 on it will look for the lv2diag.self. This file calls on the syscall and so it knows what function to do.
That is why there is different lv2diag.self files for different tasks. Like remarry, RSOD fix, downgrade, exit, etc....

So you only need to use the jig once to toggle FSM, then it will stay in it, until you put the correct lv2diag.self by itself on a usb drive to exit.

Thanks for the info.

Given that I seem unable to get the update to load is there another lv3diag.self file that I could run to at least prove that I am in FSM mode?

Thanks again

James

If after you saw the connect controller screen, you cut the power by switch or pull the plug. Then plug in the psp in the right port and do the power eject.
Your PS3 should of started up then automatically shut down.
If it did then the jig worked.

Format your USB drive to fat32.
Put this lv2diag.self file on the root.
Along with Rogero_V3.6_PS3UPDAT.PUP.
MAKE SURE TO RENAME TO PS3UPDAT.PUP

Put the usb drive into the farthest right port. And turn on the PS3.

If it doesn't work, try a different usb flash drive formatted to fat32.
Also if the update fails or succeeds, there will be a log file on the usb. If it fails post it's contents here.
