If you're talking about buying PS3 USB dongles, I understand your decision, but people do and it's their choice as such.

However, if this were said about buying legit games, it'd be completely different.

TBH, even with all the rants, fights and drama the scene is not completely useless but kinda damaged. We do have a stable CFW that look a particularly long time to come in the first place since the PS3 launch in 2006. And since then, we have a come a long way to CEX-DEX and Dongles. Dongles are just crap but they prove that the system has vulnerabilities and can be exploited to make full utilization. However, it is sad that the methods won't be shared for free or in some cases not shared with us end users at all. The problem of divide between us is the real reason that the scene has got so ugly. The devs are two sided and so are the users. Some say money - some say knowledge - some just don't give a damn how it is done as long as there is a way. Though we all hate $ony they still laugh at us like we are all blind blithering idiots who can't do $hit. Till we don't resolve the disputes between ourselves there cannot be a free or peaceful scene. Right now, the scenario is, Your Scene VS My Scene whereas it should be The Scene VS $ony. To dongle makers, I'll recite the same story to which you turn a deaf ear, making a dongle is not a crime, but making it for the purposes of DRM'ing is just a misplaced sense of principle. Unless you can show that the dongle has a purpose other than DRM (like a modchip for a PS2) YOU SHALL NEVER BE ACCEPTED. To everybody thrashing devs, choose your words of hate carefully and time them. Not all of them are going the other way, but will be tempted more if we don't be grateful for what they contribute. And to devs who already have gone the other way, good luck with that.

I'm not disappointed with the scene, a lot of good devs such as @sandungas , @samson , @mys is , @euss , @naehrwert , @aldostools , @deank , @KDSBest , @Ada Love Lace , @flatz , @oct0xor , @Rogero and others, contribute with the scene everyday with good apps and valuable information about the system. I am really grateful for what they did for the scene, many thanks to them!

There's one thing I am disappointed, reDRM dongles, they are useless and don't contribute anything for the scene, It's just a scam.

On the whole it kindda died when some devs decided they would rather profit than contribute freely. This got some other devs into the same mindset "If they are making money why cant I?".

And so drm devices flooded the scene. But what is more disappointing is that people bought these devices even after being told that these dongles serve no purpose apart from forcing you to buy them to use the firmware these dongle makers released.

And these dongler-lovers only defense is calling us cheap and that the dongle-makers should be paid for "their" work. Yet again showing their ignorance on the fact that 90% of the work was done by other devs who released it for free, and that these people calling us cheap when they are the only buying a dongle whose sole purpose is to pirate games.

So as long as the demand and idiocy of dongle-lovers is there, these dongle-makers will continue to rip them off.

A few people have realised that what we were telling them is true and they probably wont buy the new dongle at first; but I know that as time goes on and the scene stalls again, these guys will get impatient to play new games and decide the $69 is worth it.

They cannot deny now that our guesses came true, we knew the dongle makers would leak info so their dongle gets hacked, so then they can use that excuse to release a new dongle.
TB claimed to be releasing a new one but have gone quiet, yet with have Blue Dick suddenly appear with what TB were promising, kindda coincidental, again! isnt it? But they claim not to be a part of the TB team.
And so the cycle starts again, people buy this dongle, 6 months later a "clone" appears, a clone this team releases themselves, increase sales of that dongle; release suicide code on their "original" dongle, some people get pissed off and decide to buy the "original" = more sales.
Then a year later they claim they have no choice but to release a new dongle, but dont worry the old one will still be compatible with the new firmware; team goes quiet, then a couple months later a "new" team appears with everything the "old" team were promising and they too will be releasing their dongle!

And as we know these cheapskate hypocrites will buy these new dongles even if they do cost them $100. Why? Well they only spend $100 a year but can pirate $1000s of games during that year, it's more than worth the price of being ripped off every year for them, cos even though they may know they are being ripped off, in the long run there are saving a fortune. And so they have given the dongle makers an excuse to continue this process.

And seeing that we are all still in a global recession, those who would not have bought such a dongle before will in order to play the latest games for free.

IMO a lot of devs sold out mainly because we are in a recession, with lots of people losing jobs, they need to feel secure, and saw this as a great way to get some money fast, by selling their info to dongle makers. So it was all just bad timing.

But this will have lasting affects, these dongle makers know that a lot of people wont mind being ripped off for the sake of piracy, so come the next-gen consoles, I wouldnt be surprised if the first few exploits be pay-for only only to end up being DRM infected.
This has most likely poisoned all scenes with greed, and we probably see a lot less in the coming years on all platforms.

@bigo93 : Good synopsis of the redrm situation and why it happened. It was the end-users who bought this crap that allowed them to continue scamming. I've always advocated boycotting these c*nts (if no one supports a bad idea, it dies), however I can't stop anyone from doing what they want, so all I (we, as a whole) can do is educate end users on how these things are bad for the scene.

So to everyone considering buying this new dongle: please don't! You're only enabling them to continue ripping off the scene. If the dirty devs are the only ones capable of doing anything good, we need some new devs. I'd rather have a PS3 stuck on OFW than a re-drm'd piece of sh1t anyway. Thanks to the cex>dex leak, I don't have to make that decision. It was the best leak in the PS3 history, if for no other reason than it completely shafted the re-drmers and spoiled their greedy little scam.

Is again a question of percentages... i think we cant blame the people that talks openly they bought a dongle, they are honest and in the end it has not much importance because they are a little %
Trolling them will cause no effects in sell numbers

To be more clear... i agree with this sentence, but like you said they have freedom to do what they want... just dont advertise the product to other users as something good, because is not

I believe that the % is really low. folks, you've got to remember that TB shipped worldwide. From Indonesia to China to all Europe and USA/Canada and God knows where else. They made a **** ton of money and the people who didn't buy it - I believe - are much lower (who check forums and who's against TB).

For goodness sake, we live in a dumb world. How many people got the new iPhone or buy the latest EA game? Yep, if those people buy the latest crap - you sure as hell they'll get those dildos of TBs.

Supply and demand. People demanded (and even begged) for a 3.6x solution - they got it for a price tag. Deal. That's how majority of customers think.

They couldn't give a crap about the SCENE, or dongle makers making money. To them, it's about the solution.

As long as they are not 'stuck' they are willing to pay the price. Pretty much like xPreax type of thinking (that if - they think) - they'll probably come to his conclusion whereas TB = 60$ = 150 games = z0mgbestthingever type of thinking.

Sad but true.

LOL

I bet in psychology this is something like "low tolerance to frustration"... if there is a new "thing" out they/we want it NOW !!!!

I'm talking about wanting to be on 3.55 CFW and still having the ability to be able to play your newest 4.2+ games. When I bought my PS3 I figured I would be able to play PS3 games on it. I didn't know I would be so restricted by the manufacturer with all these stipulations to play them. I feel bad for people who are only familiar with modern gaming. I miss the days when you could buy a game and stick it in your console with your sole concern being the loading time. To me, it shouldn't even be a debate. It should be a consumer right. But you are right. It's people's choice if they want to keep paying over and over to continue to use their console. I still stand by my opinion.
