Actually I just thought about this. I'm not sure cold start temperatures matter much. They continently change on start up and are going to vary based on model, room temperature, things like that. No ones console overheats on cold start. We really need to focus more on the temps of the CPU and gpu after a decent work load like 30 min to hour of graphically intense gameplay. Correct me if sound ridiculous or if I am thinking to much into this. I will post cold start temps anyway but I don't think they are very helpful for preventing overheating issues

A GPU/CPU Can Heat Up Fast!!!!! It depends on how much energy it uses and it can be quite significant

Wow, this is awesome, would be great if it could be implemented in multiMAN or the XMB.

This is the die temps for the Cell processor.
average temp should be around 30 degrees.

V F P T
0.9 2.0 1 25
0.9 3.0 2 27
1.0 3.8 3 31
1.1 4.0 4 38
1.2 4.4 7 47
1.3 5.0 11 63

V= voltage
F= frequency
P= power
T= temperature

@condorstrike thanks for the info. I am not real sure how to understand what you have posted. So, basically the temperature for the cell processor should be on average around 30 degrees celsius? Is that like when you first turn it on? And i am guessing that the more it has to process, the more power it takes, which the more heat it produces. Sorry for the noob questions.

Nevermind. Didn't even see the link. I will read it. Thanks

Interesting read, although it doesn't really tell you what the threshold for temps are. Would love it to know, so maybe we could code a more improved app that utilizes like a % bar that goes from green, to yellow, to red, depending in the heat levels of the processors. And maybe even a warning pop up much like an update pop up to let you know during game play that you are over doing it. Maybe really far fetched, and absolutely impossible. I am in no way dev or anything even close, so for now I am just happy with being able to see the temps.

Sweet, wanted this forever! Will have to point this out to Dean if he hasn't seen it :D
This is more exciting than any EBOOT releases

Epic! This is what the PS3 scene is all about - great useful homebrew like this to tell us how long our PS3s have until their horrible death lol!

I've been wanting this ever since I had a JTAG 360...now as was previously pointed out, all we need is a real-time fan speed adjuster via software.

Props to the legend that created this app!

My god...

Use your brain people worrying about high temperatures. Do you even know what the base values should be of an untaxed Cell as used in PS3 and untaxed PS3 GPU?

OMGZZZZZ it's 70c.....ahhhhhh

Just an FYI but some nvidia GPUs (yes 7800 GTX which is same tech as PS3 GPU runs at around 70c with no load - normal. It's fine up to around 115c.

Cell CPU....Dunno about that...

But it sure isn't 30c as @condorstrike has stated imo. These are air cooled and have tiny heatsinks and fans on them. Not a chance you're going to get 30c temp under no load. I would expect a temp of around 50c under no load is perfectly normal taking the cooling into account (very poor).

There will be massive variations in people's base temps because the PS3 uses Cells based on different manufacturing processes from 90nm down to 45nm for the CPU, and similar for the GPU depending on age of model

Fat models will get a lot hotter than slim ones.
