I have to admit the temps on mine after playing GT5 scared the **** out of me too, although I'm comparing them to my 360 Slim so maybe the those temps for PS3 are normal.?
Could someone with controllable fan speed test there temps while the fans are at 50%/75%/100%? It would be interesting to see the temp differences. |

The maximun temperature supported by BGA solder balls is 90º C
This is what the theory says... but in real world you need to have a margin around 10º C... so a "safe maximun" can be around 75º 80º From the point of view of the motherboard.... there is a bending (of the whole board because is more "plastic" and can be deformed/expanded) that happens with high temperatures, this deformations are small changes but can break solder balls, or even layers of the board This caused lot of bricks in XBOX360... but in PS3 the motherboard is covered with a metal "sandwich" to avoid this problem... im not sure at wich point this "metal sandwich" is usefull, but im sure it is, so is a good point in the design of the ps3 Last edited by sandungas; 10-01-2012 at 04:39 AM. |

From what I can gather its the rapid heating and cooling that ultimately kills the Console, that and the crappy lead free solder balls under the Chips (both 360 and PS3)
If we can get a software solution to adjust the fan speed (ala 360) then that would reduce stress to the chip and extend the life of the Console. I know there are other methods to do this but If I can avoid Cracking open the PS3 all the better.

param 1: 0 for get cell temp, and 1 for get rsx temp syscall return's 2 byte's: first is temp in degree Celsius, second byte is: for temp_0 (cell) 03 = XX.00 | 67 = XX.25 | 131 = XX.50 | 195 = XX.75 for temp_1 (rsx) 00 = XX.00 | 64 = XX.25 | 128 = XX.50 | 192 = XX.75 in multiman, maybe as sidebar gadget, would be cool

This is a big feature, there was lot of people wanting this (me included) better in main screen
![]() Thanks for the app, have you "traced back" this function to see what process uses it in a original firmware ? Because ploggy idea is good... there must be a way to configure the fan speed based in temperature readings, and also, there must be a table somewhere with the correspondency between temperatures-fanspeeds (aka XBOX360 style) Other thoughts... i like the idea of thatotherguy of replacing the XMB clock by temperature readings (but this needs to be done in both... main XMB... and XMB-ingame) |

i use psl1ght now for some weeks, i only played with some syscall's from ps3devwiki, not more.
its a syscall use by gameos, for check temp's, to regulate fan speed if necessary, or shut down ps3 if temp to hot, that's all i can say. sry i speaking only german, reading is easy, but to write .... |

don't think that's possible in XMB... maybe through a theme?
