Can I make a suggestion, I was going to make a thread myself and have come up with a basic testbed to make sense of the numbers.

Required info:

1. Room temperature.
2. Exact PS3 Model - some chips are 90nm or 65nm or 45nm.
3. Original thermal compound or replaced+with what eg AS5
4. ???

Test method:

Test 1, idle test: form a cold start 30 mins (or till temp is stable) idle on XMMB settings menu (sparks on, screensaver off).

Test 2, in game test: Play Uncharted 2 for 1 hr (a game most people will have handy and will also stress the system) then bring up XMB and select multiman, click yes close game (make sure your defult view in MM has temperature reading on it!). This will keep the time between game closing and temperature reading to a minimum and should make for fairly constant times for comparisons.

Or should I make a new thread?>

My results:

1. 22*C
2. PS3 SLIM CECH 2004B 45nm CPU 65nm RSX
3. Stock compund
4. 3.55
5. Cheap horizontal laptop stand with 3 small fans

Test 1: CPU 57*C RSX 59*C

Test 2: CPU 65*C RSX 70*C
With cooling on: CPU 61*C 68*C

Copypaste from another thread:

60GB CECHC04 PHAT
After coldboot
-RSX 37°C
-CPU 42°C
After 10min idle(music playing etc..)
-RSX 40°C
-CPU 45°C
And after half hour NHL12 gaming session
-RSX 43°C
-CPU 50°C

*I have changed the thermal paste (AS5)
*I have two computer fans 80mmx80mm exhausting the air out
*And I have KillerBug's PS3 E-Z Chill Hidden Control Version

And room temp was ~23°C

The model is very important, with the reference on the sticker is enought (e.g: your CHECH2004)
And the game used is also important, is good to make a list of the ones useful for this tests

Me thinks you create your own reality... read DRAMA.

No need to even bring up the point so why bother? You don't have to worry about DEALING with any of it, other than the possibility of READING the thread, in which case you don't have to read it.

Choices. We have them.

60GB CECHC04
room temp 15c
CPU 75c
GPU 45c
the temp is constant whatever the ps3 is on (but the fan speed change)
i think i have to find a way cool the cpu from the up but the clamps make it not easy to do

I see your point however I belive many of our US friends have climate control in their houses...

I suppose its not too important for idle temps (assuming the PS3 aims to maintain a set temp) but temps under load will probably be quite effected. If it can be measure it should be part of the results

CHECHG 40gb with original paste and PS3 E-Z chill

after 10min idle at xmmb:
-CPU = 50°C
-RSX = 45°C

after playing uncharted 2 for about 20min:
-CPU = 54°C
-RSX = 50°C

Still wondering if i should replace the thermal paste...
