Formatted to fat 32 2 USB drives that have never gave me a problem. I tried to update to 3.55 before I opened this thread and it gave me the error in the first 10% of the update, which is why me and playerkp420 thought it may be a bad flash and needs to use fsm to downgrade rewriting the the flash. I'm clueless. I will try to use the next firmware up and see how it goes. Then maybe the restore PS3 system option? Would the install other OS help me at all, like could I maybe do a round about way using Linux or something?
not sure about the linux but

actually had a thought

have you tried starting the ps3 with out the hdd in?
you should get an error
i wonder if once you get this error you can then re-insert the hdd and it will then update.
this is 1 of alot of fixes to the no video out put fault. just wondering if it resets something somewhere.

I tried starting it without the hard drive. It came up to cannot start correct hard drive was not found. I turned the system back off, and then put the hard drive back in and turned it back on. Came up just fine, but same problem. Should I have put the hard drive back in while the system was on?

you did it right.
it was a long shot but one less thing to try.

i dont suppose you have a game with a higher f/w on you can try?
just incase its something stupid like your usb drives not being supported by the early f/w

oh the linux install

if you have it then trying to install it wont hurt. atleast you will know if "something" will install.

I have some games that have 3.55 or lower firmware, but the problem is my disc drive doesn't read discs. I could replace it with another drive or try taking this one apart and cleaning the lense. I don't think it is the bd drive board, because when I put a disc in, it shows the little circle rotating in the right coner. Sorry if I am bothering ya man. You don't have to keep answering me. I appreciate all the help either way. @baileyscream

lol
put a working laser / drive in
i will put money on the update working then

as far as i know it uses the laser to check there isnt a disc in the drive when its updating the bdvd.
i think as it cannot read it also cannot tell if there is / isnt a disk in so it stops the update right from the start.

and no probs i am enjoying trying to solve this with you

hmm mind you it doesnt explain why it isnt finding the update on the usb unless it doesnt support the usb drives you have ........ thats the puzzle esp as it did the min verson (after a few try's that is

@itskamel I believe it possible to make a mfw with no bd check for any firmware, but the issue is my ps3 won't update whatsoever. I tried to get it to update to 3.55 noBDnoBT which is patched for no bd and it wouldnt take. Thanks guys for the input. @baileyscream , since I tried the 3.55 noBDnoBT firmware and it didn't take, does that still make you think the blue ray laser will help? I tried tht before any of this or even starting this thread.

@itskamel . No I haven't tried a lower firmware patched for no bd. i was going to try to reinstall this frimware or a lower one using fsm but i cant seem to get into fsm. I have a 3.41 and 3.50 mfw with no bd patch. Maybe I will give them a shot if fixing the laser doesn't work. Or i can try a lower mfw like 2.50 or something. Thanks for the idea. I will try anything to get it going.

did it transfer the update to the ps3 then restart then stop the update at 10%

the nobd firmware should work if its your bdvd.
you could try it again
thats if it will read it from the usb

could you try a different usb slot aswell just incase its a faulty usb port.

@itskamel i have never had any luck using the mfw builder so i have no idea if you can create lower nobdnobt firmware.

and the minfirmchecker doesnt work on his system.
thats the strage part
that will install to 100% but not show min firmware
but the ps3 wont detect genuine firmware
