He came by last night. We were able to play on the ps3 (motorstorm: PR)
Then we tried MW2 (requires fw 3.01) and it demanded to update. But it failed when trying to install the update. " Data Corrupted"

we tried 2 different hdd's from other ps3's. Still no joy.

Tried the recovery options (factory defaults, rebuild database,..) with the original drive ==> error.

One funny thing though, when trying the format the hdd from xmb. It asked how you want to format the drive (2.76 still has otheros). and when you press ok, you see the progress bar going to 100% but when the system reboots all data and user accounts are still there...
