playing 3.60+ backups with DEX BDEMU HDD

Hi everyone,

I haven't been following the scene very closely for the past few months, and I only recently converted my slim PS3 to DEX, but I ran into some trouble building backup images on my BDEMU HDD. I've already been through the tutorials on Hax (and some others too), converting from CEX to DEX was ok, it's just the next step that's not working for me. So maybe I still have some homework to do and one of you guys can point me in the right direction...

My HDD is an old one, 200Go, with independent power, it's always worked fine so far to play backups in Multiman. To format it I set all the requested settings in "Debug Settings" (Blu-ray Disc Access= BD Emulator(USB), Transfer Rate Pacing for BD EMulator = HDD Native, Boot Mode = Release Mode), and then went through with the quick format itself. It seemed to go fine, no error message, "HDD Format completed".

Then I connected my HDD to my PC, Windows 7 x64, followed some noob-friendly tutorial to create a back-up image on the HDD through PS3Gen, everything was cool till I had to "build" the image on the HDD. PS3Gen just couldn't find the BD Emulator, my HDD couldn't be scanned, "no BD Emulator found", so I was stuck. Tried to format the HDD again in "Debug settings", still stuck.

I tried to run BdEmuPartitionTool, clicked "refresh" ten times, still, "no BD Emulator found".

I then tried to install Dex Game Mounter x64, after fixing the Visual Basic 5 Runtime stuff, couldn't install it, instead I had this error message "Some files couldn't be created." Same thing with Dex Game Mounter x32.

So I installed the whole PS3 Tools collection, thinking maybe this was a requirement I hadn't read about, it didn't change anything.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Is my HDD garbage? Do I have to run Dex Game Mounter if I just want to build images on my HDD, or can I just skip that part?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Have you tried running PS3gen as Administrator(right click, run as administrator)? This worked for me.

Have the same issue with my HDD drive. Starting to think it is a specific HDD problem. I have formatted my HDD every which way and run PS3GEN in Administrator mode. Funny enough I can write and use PS3 .EMU's with Open BDEMU Manager by @FreePlay . Look for it and try it, report your findings please.

Finally got a chance to try a different PC. Windows 7 32bit worked flawlessly. Is there a 64bit PS3GEN?

Start ps3gen normal.
Do everything as you usualy do but dont build the image.
Save the project and close ps3gen.
Then start ps3gen in administrator, load your saved project an build it.

This way it works fine for me.
I'm using windows 8 64bit.

Thanks for the "execute as an administrator" tip, I didn't know about that. It works, but it only gets me one step farther, then I'm stuck again.
So far I've tried Resident Evil 6 (BLES01165) and Sleeping Dogs (BLES011661), did as told in the tutorial, clicked 'Build', got an error message about the LIC.DAT file that needed to be updated, ignored it since that file is locked and I can't do anything about it whether as an administrator or not, and built the image.
But then neither one of those two games could be launched on my PS3 4.21 DEX, even though the update .pkgs had been installed, I couldn't even see the image in the XMB menu (each time I did set the game slot as 'default').
And when I look at my BDEMU HDD through BdEmuPartitionTool, it looks like on the two slots where I built those images, only about 1Go is used...
Trying with another game now.

EDIT: other game, same result.
Oh and by the way this is all on Windows 7 x64.

When you inserted the stick into the ps3, did you restart the console?

OK then, I made a fool of myself, didn't know I had to restart my PS3.

Now I just need to make that .pkg update myself following the tutorial, the one I grabbed somewhere else won't work.

Thanks for your help!
