I never play BDs, I rip them using dd in PS3 Linux, then I free them using DeAACS in AnyDVD HD.

It gives me the original quality m2ts file, somewhat big files, but as I never distribute them I can’t complain neither about the size, nor about the quality.

No losses what so ever, AFAIK.

You can't rip a BD50 bluray and then compress the video and then mux it back to a valid stream to create a BD25 - Not possible.

You CAN strip the movie only out of a BD50 and if the total of the movie only adds up to capacity of a BD25 or less, you can then burn that to a BD25.

You can rip any 3D bluray and remove the protection and play it as a "folder" in supported players on a PC.

There doesn't exist a homebrew player on the PS3 that supports 3D bluray streams, encoded as a genuine bluray iso\folde, or even SBS as in an mkv. Half SBS *may* be possible (but kinda pointless given the quality loss)...even that, I'm dubious as it would seem from all reports that the homebrew you need (Showtime) is just decoding both left\right streams and overlaying them creating a ghosting effect.

....So basically no, unless your bluray satisfies the capacity of a BD25 as a movie only rip and you have a bluray writer and some BD25 disks.

I DeAACS the discs using ps3 linux, dd and AnyDVD HD

BD25 are usually giving me 18GB m2ts files, BD50 35GB m2ts files, nothing is lost AFAIK, 3D works fine.

I use the XMB mediaplayer to play the m2ts files from internal HDD.

I have a 2 TB "internal" drive 1.2TB for GameOS( the hugest I mananged does not work with all drives, ) the rest for Linux: http://www.google.com/search?q=ps3+hdxt

There are plenty of ways rip a full BD50 disc (inc. menu etc) and burn to a BD25 with no noticeable quality loss.
BD-Rebuilder being one of them for example.

how about if you were on 4.21 f/w then downgraded to 3.55 and without QA de-hashing but staying on regero cfw could you then play the latest bdvd's as the drive will still have the latest drive firmware?

if that is possible then would it be possible to take the bdvd firmware from the latest firmware and patch it into a 3.55mfw?

hmm i think i will have to buy the latest bdvd to try the first step
good excuse to buy pometheus on blueray

@baileyscream

AACS keys are part of the System firmware and are in the self files (AacsModule.spu.isoself and possibly CprmModule.spu.isoself).
