Modding a Termaltake Duet for dual boot /adding switch
While waiting to get my e3 in mail I decided to start my own project to make the dual boot easier. Im trying to mod a thermaltake duet so there is no need to actually swap out the hdd's for dual boot with the e3. Just flipping a switch. I have a double pole double rocker switch. On-off-on style. Im able to get the 12v side working fine but i have been unable to get the 5v side to work correctly. Cant find a good place to cut the the power to 5v to switch. Has anyone out there tried doing this. The way i have it now will actually work with 3.5 hdd's but not 2.5 hdd's since they onloy use 5v. Dont wanna go out and buy another hdd. Right now I have 1tb 3.5 and a 500gb 2.5.
Thanks in advance Last edited by kylum; 10-13-2012 at 01:11 PM. |

where do you get the 12v from? mainboard, BD drive or fan...
as an alternative you could use a 7805 12V in and 5Vout ![]() there's 5V at the bluray connector but it's probably not meant to handle any extra current, and it's a switched 5V if you want the 5V that is meant for the hdd you have to look for a solder point on the mainboard if you have an old phat it's easy to track it down because of the schematics for those versions. |

Thanks for the reply however I'm doing this to the esata station not the ps3. I'm trying to mod it so that I can cut voltage going to either hdd in the esata station via a switch. The 12v is not the issue that's the easy part. It's the 5v that is tricky for me. If I cut the 5v the esata station doesn't work at all. I have tried multiple locations. I'm sure this is easily done just can't figure it out. If I could fine a schematic for it it would be a little easier but google cant find one. I've got it working with two 3.5 hdd's so I'm good to go for now. It would be nice to get it to work with 2.5 hdd's though. 3.5in hdd's require the 12v and 5v so it works. 2.5v hdd's require only 5v.
Thanks |

you just need the standard E3 flasher to do the above so saving on not buying the dual boot kit btw where are you buying the E3 from? suppliers are running short now |

I thought about that but since I already had an extra 1tb 3.5 hdd plus credit at tigerdirect which a local store isn't far from the house. I figured I would try the above. The only extra money I spent was for the switch $2 from mouser which is also local for me.
I ordered just the flasher from e3-forums which is one of the distributors on the e3 site. It was 10 bucks more but coming from the US I figured I would spend the extra cash. However putting the e3 on top of the bdplayer still might be an option if the wife doesn't kill me if first. When you gonna get the "how to" up on your guide for hidden e3?
