You aren't actually serious about this virus being the work of SOPA backers are you?

The 2 are completely unrelated. It's just a fiddle to extort money out of you by the person that made the virus.

...Sorry if I'm stating the obvious here, it is obvious right?

Lmfaoooo this is hilarious and of people want to fall victim to these not so scary viruses then fine.

Everyone knows what to do don't they?

1. Get a good antivirus
2. Dont download **** from websites you don't trust or look dodgy.
3. If you get a virus format your computer and try again.

It really ain't that hard is it? Personally I don't actually own a antivirus or firewall and download torrent on a daily basis and not 1 problem to date and this is because I am careful where I go wether it is thepiratebay or somewhere else.

just looked at this and it can be stopped simply by starting computer in safe mode, closing the process in task manager, and deleting 3registry entries

Also this has nothing to do with sopa, probably just used to scare people since it was well known by everyone

either way, good to know whats out there!
good thing i'm a well mannered citizen who would never take advantage of Hollywood! lololol

Just a simple restart of a PC everything even 100s of viruses/maleware on a PC at one time, will not harm your PC at all when deepfreeze is activated. Personally i think DeepFreeze is better than antivirus protection when you need to protect data, like in this case below.

This although is not about deepfreeze something just very odd "Read & click on SOURCE" !
Anyways i though people should read this before becoming a victim .
I mean this is Ridiculous if it happened to me i be pissed !

After historic Internet protests in January the SOPA anti-piracy bill was defeated. However, this week several reports have pointed to a rather unfortunate SOPA comeback. Not in Congress, but as a nasty cryptovirus that locks up people’s computers and accuses them of distributing copyright infringing files. Infected users can get their data back after a payment of $200 – at least, that’s what the virus makers promise.

The Stop Online Piracy ACT (SOPA) was a major threat to the Internet. The bill introduced draconian censorship tools for the Government and copyright holders, that worried the public and many key Internet companies including Reddit, Google and Wikipedia.

After months of protest, the bill was eventually killed off following the Internet Blackout earlier this year.

This sounds bad but not as bad as it seems. Same concept as fake anti virus software, but it should be relatively easy to defeat if you are a little more than average PC user Even if I wasn't able to clean the virus out totally and a system reinstall was my only option left (which is very rare) I would have still been able to retrieve most of the data.

I have worked with deepfreeze in the pat. While I may not see any practical use for it on a home PC it has proven useful in the past. The college IT labs are where I had my first taste of this software, and it is great for the IT training scenario. No matter what damage a student could have done (inside the OS) as soon as they shut down and left, it was as though they had never touched the PC at all. I have also seen it used for wrond doing as well. I had a customer a few years ago that bought a used laptop but noticed all his saved files from the previous session were gone after every restart. The guy that originally sold the laptop with the software installed, so when he was contacted he could make up some random crap and then charge the new owner for a "repair." That pissed me off so bad. Talking about taking advantage of someone with less than average computer skills. Why didnt he just bump the asking price instead of pulling a scam? Actually this is the fourth person that has called me after dealing with this same shady *******. He has charged to replace hardware, and hasnt done it, used pirated copies of OSes and charged to fix them when marked counterfeit and I have watched him do other shady **** outside of PC repair. Oh well this guy used to own a local computer shop, but his business failed horribly and he has since lost his house, car, and has had his wife leave him. Not wishing bad things on anyone but that goes to show you how much of a ****** karma is

Wow.... scams and malware that use the SOPA name. I would like to meet the creator and give him a swift kick to the balls and as he falls punch him in the throat. Talk about a ****ed up individual.

Edit: I just noticed the warning about 72 hours to pay or else. All I can say is if someone actually pays this crap or cant leave the PC off long enough for someone to look at it and try to repair it then they honestly deserve to have their HDD wiped. It would be a good life lesson IMO.

Not the best AV in the world as far as detection goes but for someone that doesn't do an insane amount of stupid **** with their PC is great and not to mention it is still miles ahead of most paid AV solutions. I laugh at people that still buy Norton or Mcafee. I have used free AV for years now. I use MSE and I love it. Other free anti virus programs that used to be good are starting to really fall off....yes I am looking at you AVG and Avast. Microsoft really should just start making it preinstalled with Windows and remove that Windows defender **** because it is worthless, but the day it comes preinstalled is the day it probably also goes to ****.

That story sound like a little bit of what is happening here with this sopa virus. I been using Deep freeze for over 6 years i can't not even remember , maybe longer .It saved me quite a few times ,but is nice to keep a PC clean. I remember saved me once & prevents incidents from getting worse. The kind of crappy Malware that installs itself on your PC in a flash. Those are sometimes impossible to stop & get rid of sometimes & happens so fast. Just a simple click, opening IE Explorer or Google home page when it happened to me. Good thing i had DeepFreeze enabled = "Reboot" .

I have many computers in one place total 13 in the house, i cant afford to lose the kind of data i have accumulated over the last 20+yrs. 1000s of hours of my time, is one reason why i make clones of every drive expensive but worth it ..

Your right people can do lame/shady things like you had said .DeepFreeze is great to create & handle viruses also without affecting your PC or the creator & use someones PC & abuse yes.

I did not write the story, but do you trust your government ? I don't & you have every right to trust yours, if you like. I do not trust my government as far as i can through the white house with airforce 1 on the roof ,lol There are many kinds of scams & it very well could be like the get rid of this virus if you pay for this app "malware" The app is actually already installed on the infected pc= malware /virus & they get you to pay = people would pay = your average user is not very smart "they win" !

I remember users using LOIC. I remember users exposing without knowning their own sensitive personal data for a cause that it's pure propaganda.

Oh i remember those times when a massive denial of service with botnets defaced many sites.
I remember too when they posted a massive list also of movies to download that were in torrent sites or direct download blogs 9 years before.

I want to facepalm myself...but i pass this time to do so.
Proxy wars.

The MPAA was caught uploading fake torrents & they were filled with malwareor a re direct URL to malware or in other cases a virus or install this Codec pack in order to watch this movie or in other cases = a letter from your ISP from downloading a fake movie = They setup people pricks = MPAA.

Do you remember ?

couldnt get rid, couldnt get to task manager, sweet f*ck all.
