Blue light is on with no disc inserted.
I don't normally ask for help, as I can usually figure out stuff on my own, but this one has me a bit confused. My PS3 (orignally a 40GB fat model, the first non BC model Sony made) just gave me the YLOD the other day. I sent it of for a reball service (if that's what was actually done, not sure) and it came back booting up just fine, but one problem. Now the blue light is on, even when there's no disc in the system. Hitting eject just makes it flash. I've opened hte PS3 up to check the connections from the drive to the board, and all looks good. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

you will need to open up the bd drive and reset the cogs. fairly simple just a bit of fiddling around with it. it pays to leave it all open and turn it on a few times once you have done it just to make sure it wont do it again.
hope this helps i tried looking up a decent tut video but im using a dial up connection from my phone. google reset bd drive mechanism and you should be able to find one... some times you have to be a bit forceful with the mechanics to get it. Last edited by jezcullen09; 10-19-2012 at 03:08 PM. |

pressing eject won't turn the led off, because i have a 40GB ps3 that had the same problem, but in my case the motors were also dead, i changed the flat cable from drive/motherboard, it did solve the blue led problem, but motors were still dead. |

Does it still accept discs? Personally I wouldn't mind the light as long as I could still use it. I like the blue light.
