I have checked many posts and I cannot come to a conclusive answer and I would just like some of the more senior scene guys confirm if what I am thinking is correct.

Somehow I think I might end up disapointed but then again I will not be the only one in this situation.

My PS3 is a CECH-2504A with a date code of 1A and have factory OFW 3.56.

Now as per this site ps3devwiki.com my PS3 is borderline yes or no as per the table for the 25xx 1A models.

I also ran the MinVerChk tool and it states:
"Update data of version 3.56 or later can be installed on this system.(8002F967)"

Any way of getting the metldr and bootldr without having to open the PS3 to validate on what side of the fence my PS3 finds itself ?

The only thing that makes me believe that it will be a no will be the MinVerChk.

technically, the CECH-25xxA (2010 model) should be downgradable to 3.40

if your min ofw is 3.56 you are without luck... at least for now... but this guy isac from the love boat said that maybe a solution for you peeps in the works...

hes not really out of luck , he could install 3.56 cfw with a flasher

@carldenning wasn't 356 jfw discontinued?! and from what i understand going 356 jfw it's easy but getting out is not.. but yeah you are correct... i forgot about it...

yeah it has been discontinued but it still works and runs backup etc nothink like 3.55 cfw . if he wants to run backups etc thats his only option . the reason why its hard to get out of is because u cant go 3.56 cfw to 3.56 ofw just like we do on 3.55 with just a fw pup .
to get out of the cfw 3.56 to 3.56 ofw u have to use a flasher . but if he got a flasher to get on to 3.56 cfw then it be easy to get out . in the end thats he only option he got . even if its a crap fw its better than nothink lol

or another option is to wait and see if he can install this imaginary 4.21cfw from a flasher as that would be better than 3.56 cfw

You have to be on 3.55 or below to install the JFW and Getting off of it would not be easy. So he is still out of luck.

if u install 3.56 cfw with out a flasher then yes u have to be on 3.55 but if u downgrade with a flasher to 3.56 cfw then u can install it . just like u would if u was downgrading from 4.21 ofw to Rogero 3.55 cfw.

You cannot Downgrade to 3.56 JFW Its not possible, If you tried I'm sure you'd brick Due to the FW not having the Correct hashes and such,
Most people go to 3.55 OFW when downgrading to be safe, But you can go straight to Rogero Because The FW has the hashes for downgrade.
You cannot go to 3.56 jfw, Its not worth it even if you can.
