The PS3 and Xbox 360 have sold about just as much hardware this generation despite Microsofts ~1 year headstart. Why would the next generation be strictly from Microsoft?

Because Microsoft doesn't dumb down their consoles abilities with almost every update

And with every new dashboard update Microsoft has made sure of adding useful features instead of being like $ony, removing features and not being able to do much with it.

It's true that the US PlayStation now has a couple of Apps like on Xbox 360, but I suppose if it wasn't Microsoft that started it I doubt $ony would've added them at all. They'd probably forget or never cared.

You know, PS3's internet browser could be updated.. I wish.

Ya exactly. Turn on a launch 360 with the very first firmware and turn on an up to date 360. It almost feels like 2 different consoles. They give the user a fresh experience with their updates.

Then do the same with ps3. They're identical. With little to no improvement to the end user...only to Sony

Nor does Sony. Some things have been removed indeed, but they've also added many things compared to the launch. It is a pity for those who care about the things that are removed, but most people seems to not care about it. Otherwise the PS3 wouldn't sell like at the current level that it is selling.

Pity to hear that you get sick to your stomach from every PS3 firmware update. Isn't it best to sell your PS3 if it affects you this much? Personally i don't think i would keep a device that made me sick. I'd rather sell it to get rid of the unnecessary problem and go for some other alternative instead (in this case, PC, Xbox 360 and/or Wii)

Out of curiousity, what features do Microsoft add? I know that they add things for those who pay for Xbox Live Gold, but what features do they add that every Xbox 360 owner can use?

I don't think that Microsoft is the pioneer within adding apps. The market has gone a lot more digital over the last few years. Streaming of videos and such has become much more common. These apps makes both Microsoft and Sony money, so i think that they would have added these apps regardless of what the competitor does.

The PS3 browser was updated in firmware 4.10.

- Full Kinect Support
- Marketplace of Apps
- Internet Explorer for Xbox (HTML5 -- Flash is going to die eventually)
- Windows 8 Metro Dashboard (Before it was the NXE Dashboard)
- My Pins (Able to pin content instead of going through the menus manually)
- SmartGlass (Watch this video: Link)
- Bing Search Engine
- Able to personally change the console's name to what you want

Other features that were already on Xbox 360:
- Ability to install all games on the HDD
- Listen to music while browsing or gaming
- Once the game is downloaded you can play straight away
- Download content while the console is in stand-by mode

@fanboysarestupid Thanks for the list. Internet Explorer for Xbox requires Xbox Live Gold however, or did they recently change that? For comparison, the PS3 has gotten Move support, trophies, Vita support, in-game XMB support, text chat support, video and photo editing possibilites, Vidzone and 3D Bluray support. But the Xbox 360 does have some nice features that the PS3 doesn't have indeed

Yeah, the PS3 browser ins't the best. I only use it for forums and such, it works fine enough for that in my opinion. For Youtube, use www.ps3youtube.com instead. Then you can view Youtube videos in higher quality. I don't like that Youtube XL stuff.

Its a pity for those who care about things that are removed? Well where I come from when features are removed from a very expensive piece of equipment that I payed hard earned cash for, and theres nothing I can do about it if I want to play my expensive new games, I tend to care about it. I think there are an insane amount of people that care about it especially when talking about otheros. And when you say most people seem not to care about it that's because they are casual in which case OFW suits them perfectly. Also I wouldn't say they've added 'many' things when being compared to the 360 for example...and even from those 'many' things, most of them the average ps3 owner doesn't care about.

You do know that you are on a ps3 hacking site right? And you do know the status of the scene at the moment right? If you knew those two things, you would also know that with every update comes along added security which compromises hacking the ps3 open to its full potential. That's why myself and alot of people here don't like updates regardless of whether we own second OFW ps3's or not. Added to that the fact that they take features away with their updates. Sure they give and take, but they give things that aren't as important to the things that they take.

Bud please grow up. You know very well I meant the UPDATES and not the ps3 as a whole...hence why I actually said...UPDATES. You were almost bringing valid arguments to the table before saying something as immature as this. With regards to his name Its kind of fitting for @fanboysarestupid to be in this thread.

Alot more than ps3 sadly. *curiosity

There is quite a number of people that own 360's here as well as ps3's and saying one is better than the other would be foolish because they both bring different and awesome things to the table. But they both have their cons as well so don't go telling people to sell their ps3 just because they list something they don't like about the machine. Especially when its something so relevant to the tone of ps3hax. No one on cfw likes OFW updates here unless they own 2 ps3's (which only makes up for about 10-15% of the site)

Yes, that is exactly why it is a pity if features gets removed if people use and care about those features. They don't have a choice to keep the features (well, unless they don't want to play newer games or login to PSN), that is what is a pity/sucks.

I'm sure that many cares about it, but i was thinking more in general of the ~65 million PS3 consoles that are sold. As you say, most people seems to be suited perfectly with OFW. I said this in regards to what you said about next gen being strictly from Microsoft (i know you were'nt 100% serious about this of course, but i wanted to mention it anyway). I think that most people in general are happy enough with OFW (for all consoles, not just the PS3), so this probably won't affect the sales that much i think.

Sorry, i thought you were just sick of the updates in general. But if you mean it in regards that new updates can be blocking exploits etc., then i understand what you mean.

For me, i've cared much more about the added stuff than what was removed. I value for example trophies and in-game XMB ten times more than OtherOS (i never used it on my 60GB PS3). But this is subjective of course. Someone else most likely valued OtherOS a lot more than anything that were added, i can see that.

I wasn't trying to be rude or immature, sorry if it came across like that. I just ment that if there is some part of a electronic product that make one sick, i just wanted to ask if it is better to go with another alternative. I would have said exactly the same regardless of what product it was, not only the PS3. If i was a big PS3 fanboy and disliked the other consoles, then i wouldn't have asked if it was best to sell the PS3 and go with another alternative

I didn't tell anyone to sell their PS3s, i asked if it made you sick, if it wasn't better to go with another alternative then. But you clearified above here what you ment with it, that is fair enough, i understand now what you ment with it.

I don't write anything in between the lines here. If i ask a question, then it is because i want to see the reply/point of view to my question, nothing more to it than that. I hate to fight and agrue hostile, so this is not my intentions at all if i ask a question that might seems like it.

I agree with what you say here, both consoles has their pros and cons. And i'm glad that more consoles excist because it means more options for the consumers
