If the bootloader keys can decrypt the firmware, why cant they find the new keys if this totally opens up pre-3000 models?

I'm still on 3.56OFW, but I doubt many others are. If the modules were added in 3.60+ then maybe there's still hope. That said, it seems we'd need the keys, and I doubt any devs would be working on such an old firmware version.

OK here is the REAL reason you can't install 4.21 cfw on a 2k console that has 4.21 ofw........NO USB FIRMWARE UPDATE ABILITY...that is why you have to go to 3.55...it is the last firmware that sony allowed it. untill someone makes a qa flag pkg that has the new offsets and is offically signed for 3.56+ firmware you need a hardware flasher to downgrade. qa flaq has usb firmware update support but it is only for 2k consoles so the new consoles are still stuck the reason for that is they changed hardware around.

By that logic: Your telling me you cant install 4.30 OFW via usb stick, over 4.21 OFW?

I think I get what you mean, but you worded it very poorly. USB firmware update ability is in every FW.

Just the checks after 3.56 are improved to reject modded pups.

I said in 3.56+ they took away that ability to do firmware updates from usb stick...

The only way to do it again in 3.56+ would be to re-enable qa flag. but to do that offsets in the old pkg would have to be changed to work with 4.xx firmware.
