I recently moved. Prior to the move, my console worked perfectly. In the process of moving, I know that I dropped my PS3 console from a maximum of three feet distance from the floor.

At my new home, my PS3 worked fine for a little while, and then began shutting off randomly, flashing the red LED when it had forced a shutdown. The system now shuts down at a quicker rate, however it is still very random. At times, it will instantly shut the system down, and other times it will stay powered on for just a few minutes before powering off.

This system in question is an 80GB non-backwards compatible PS3. I have taken the system apart, I have completely cleaned the inside of dust (with the exception of the PSU as it cannot be taken apart). As I do not have a heating gun, I have not re-flowed the board properly, however I did attempt to do so with a conventional hair dryer. I also made sure that the heatsinks were mounted properly to the chasis, and everything appears to be physically normal on the board itself, the CPU and GPU are not separated from the board anymore than they ought to be. I have also tested the system with the cover off and felt the springs covering the GPU and CPU respectively, only to find they are operating at considerably normal temperature. Also, the fan is engaging properly upon startup, and for these reasons I am beginning to think the issue is not overheating.

The blu-ray driver is working properly. The thing which is puzzling me the most is how random the shut offs occur. I have noticed that while idling, the system does stay powered on longer than when I attempt a system update or anything that processes memory, however it still eventually powers down.

Could this be an issue with my PSU? How would I go about testing to see if the PSU is faulty? Could the problem lie elsewhere I have overlooked thus far? Any ideas or advice is much appreciated, I feel like I am withdrawing from crack without my playstation. Somebody please help me get my fix!

EDIT: I think I should also add that the GPU is functioning properly upon startup, and carries signal over my HDMI cable perfectly all the way up to the power down.
