he needs to downgrade in order to update. it is a $hitty situation. when amazebreak mfw was released, Sony ofw was 3.56. so the mfw it is spoofed. there is no way you can update. if you try with a ofw >3.56 still it wont update.

cant remember right now. i now that i tryed glevand 3.55 downgrade cfw but didnt remember that it worked or no? qa flag wont do nothing. service mode is 100% sure that works. a couple days ago i downgraded a nor phat ps3 that was on 3.41 spoofed mfw with matrixps3 dongle who had the same problem as above. the current ps3 now has 4.21 dex and whole process went without problem

Did he ever say what model cause there is a possibility of losing BD movie playback

Edit: if he goes the FSM route he might want to make a backup of his dev_flash3
