Booting backups off of the external harddrive in multiman on cfw 4.21 for dummies

First of all, make sure you have the newest Multiman Installed(version 04.08) or else you will recieve a bunch of errors or a black screen when booting. Also, make sure there are no other usb drives plugged in. Only your external. Or the game will not boot

1. copy your game to the external harddrive(Press triangle on the game and go to copy then select the external drive)
2. Find the game you want to play in multiman
3. Push triangle and go to game settings
4. Make sure Bd_Emu and External are both checked
5. Press start
6. You will be sent back to the dashboard.
7. Have any Original disc in your ps3
8. Go to the games column and select your game from the blue ray disc icon
9. Profit??

If it throws an error at you or you're trying to run a 3.55 fixed game, just download the games updates using ps3 game updater then install then using install package files

Every single game I have tried so far has worked using those settings in multiman
If you notice when you press the ps button during a game, there's no exit game button. Just a spinning icon..
Just go left under video and click on the blu-ray data folder and it will exit you back to the xmb

Also: I do not recommend upgrading to the new rogero 4.21v1 cfw if you haven't yet. Too high of a brick risk

Some games will work like that as well. Only reason I posted this tutorial was because I saw some people asking about it earlier and they were only getting the black screen

I've noticed that if you have another usb drive plugged in, it will black screen constantly... I've been running NCAA 13, MW3, Dishonored, Max Payne 3, Borderlands 2, Mortal Kombat, and NCAA 12 and haven't encountered any problems since I figured out that the extra usb drive I had plugged in was what was messing with it. But anyways, this tutorial was requested, so here it is for anyone trying to get this to work

Great tutorial, thank you! I currently have a external with a 200GB partition (Fat32) and have a couple of questions:

1. I have my game on a PC and want to transfer it to the external. How do we overcome the 4gb file limit on fat32 if there is a file larger than that?

2. I've read that Multiman can use NTFS now. Can I just use a NTFS partition on the external to play the game?

Thanks in advance!

No you can't use the NTFS partition in MultiMan. You have to split the file which is over 4GB in smaller parts. Using OpenSplit or something like that. Then you boot up MM, plug in your EXTHDD, use MM to copy the game to internal, the MM will merge the file into original and your good to boot the game and play. There is also the posibility of running the game from external, using the MM to copy the big file only to internal, but I have not tested it yet with 4.21 CFW but it worked on 3.55.

BlackBox FTP or Multiman (it also have FTP function)

When I try it, the preparation for the disk were lil bit complicated, and i didn't like it (my own opinion), so i would not recommend it.
It's better to use FTP by cable, fast and accurate.

There is always a chance that file will be corrupted because of split/merge.

I'm a little confused here. Do you HAVE to copy the game to internal? That is what I'm trying to avoid because I limited space on the internal. We can't play directly from the external?

I definitely agree with FTP + cable, but I thought FAT32 file format can't handle a file over 4gb? So the transfer method doesn't matter, but the actual external drive will not process it correct?
