i'm all with that , and you can get them fairly cheap.

whatever copper you use, it have to be insulated, and as longer as the copper itself is not thinner then the one you replace...

personally i don't think the white wires would be the issue, it's more likely loose connectors (solder points)

if its power not comming out of the block then it could be the internal fuse or a thermal fuse or a quick blow resistor.
if you have no expirence with electronics then take the power supply to a shop for repair as there are some really powerfull capacitors in there that need discharging propperly or you will get a right belt from it.

I have a CECHA01 Backwards Compatible PS3. I've done some research and found that the original PSU for this version of this system is fairly poor after long extended usage of the console.

My question is what PSU is best recommended for this system model?

I do have the components I've listed for a quick fix but I decided to do a proper one.

Get a CECHG01 PSU and also get a 19 blade fan so it runs cooler and replace the thermal compound paste with arctic mx-4

I used that model PSU, unfortunately I salvaged it from a GLOD PS3 with numerous problems. No success. I decided to reflow the motherboard using a heat gun along with replacing the thermal paste with Artic Silver and putting back the original PSU. Slight success the console is no longer YLOD, but when the system is turned on after a while I get a heat warning then the console shuts off. My led light is weak as well.

Should I reapply thermal compound or get an actual working PSU?

Damn I forgot to put thermal compound on my heat sink. No wonder its shutting off metal to metal contact.

Doesn't sound like the PSU.

Reflow is a temporary fix. Sounds like you need to reball.
