Just wondering if you're still able to downgrade from 4.30. I haven't seen anything on this.

You will always be able to downgrade as long as your base firmware is 3.55 or below ....
Ans if it is a downgradable model ofcourse.

So what needs to happen before hardware makers can make a downgrader that works for 4.30

You can downgrade from 4.30 with a hardware flasher as long your base fw is not above 3.55/3.56. Check this with minverchk pup.

So im confused haha i am trying to get into the ps3 modding scene and im reading several things that just aren't making since to me i have one of the original ps3's its a nand model im assuming base firmware was 1.0 if base is what came on the thing from stock. now do i need to get a progskeet or e3 to downgrade my console or can i just use the downgrading tool?

You will need a hardware flasher like E3 flasher.But first use the tool provided by hanibal in the link above to check your lowest firmware version that you can go but as i see that you said you have an original model you dont need to check tho its better safe than sorry.
