Hey guys, sorry if this has already been discussed... But I still haven't got my head around the reason for why these new CFW released cannot be installed over the OFW 4.xx? What is it that needs to be done? Are we close to it? How long (Estimate)

We do not have the private keys that are used to sign firmware higher than 3.55 and it be decrypted with the public keys in the firmware updater. You can't hack anything on a PS3 running OFW so can't skip the check in the updater.

The private keys up until 3.55 are known so anything up that is fine.

Therefore, you can't get a console running firmware higher than 3.55 to recognize a CFW install package. We don't have the private keys to sign it correctly after Sony made changes and revoked the original private keys.

It's quite simple really.

There is no way around it, there is no way to calculate the keys. We only calculated the keys until 3.55 because Sony made a mistake which was then fixed. The private keys will NEVER be found, that you can be sure of.

Because OFW 3.56+ can detect if the FW has been modded, and to install over OFW 4.xx you need a brand new exploit so no estimate.

No, probably still really far off actually. Let me try to explain it in really simple terms... Alright so say you have a house and all of your locks on your house have been broken into (firmware 3.55) and a bunch of people got in and started hiding out. Well then you get pissed off and put all new locks with better security on your doors (firmware 3.56). While this keeps anyone new from coming in you still have all the people already inside your house and there's nothing you can do to get them out.

This is just a question (as I know jack sh*t about programming anything), but would the rumored release of the Lv0 Keys for 4.30/4.25 OFWs have any affect on the inability to install CFW on those respective OFWs? (should the rumors be true)

(Granted, A work around would more than likely need to implemented to get past the System Update's detection either way, but again, I know jack about programing)

i think we will need at least 2 variables in the list to calculate the private key.

like fail0verflow, they had public key (known) + the "random" variable (which was not random at all and discovered) = private key.

obviously a bit more complicated than that, but thats the gist of it i think, at least from what i've read.

1. phone sony and ask them for it
2. email sony and ask them for it
3. burgle sony office and take them
