I'm aware that in order to do this you need to buy the cobra dongle. The reason for this is I was wondering if there has been any progress in the reverse enginerring of that dongle or if anyone has cracked it so we all can ( or at the very least the RC ps3's ) play the PS2 and psp backups.

With all the new advantages with lv0 keys, I imagine at this point that the devs are concentrated on other things. But that isn't to say that at some point, they will get around to doing that. It's really all a matter of time, and I guarantee once word gets out that someone has reversed engineered the Cobra dongle, it will be front paged.

You are definitely not the only one awaiting for this progression, a lot of others are patiently waiting as well. Like I said, since they have lv0 keys, it's all only a matter of time now. We might even be so lucky to have Backwards Compatibility on other non-BC PS3 systems. That would rule since there are a many number of PS3s out there that suffer from not being backward compatible.

im not sure if the consoles without the hardware or software are able to do so right away if that gets cracked. Im almost positive that on the consoles without the hardware or software that sony took away, it would require a emulator to do so. Isnt that what the cobra dongle like? a emulator of sorts?

yeah, apparently the the cobra dongle will play ps2 and psp isos... Really would like to see this happen in a cfw as there's a lot of good psp games I'd like to play on my big screen (and yes I know I could hook component cables up to my psp and play on my tv but if you have ever done this you would know why its not worth doing)

How else does the Cobra do what it does? It works with non-BC PS3s. The CFW of Cobra takes the "removed files" and replaces them with working ones, all the dongle does is just verify to the CFW that it's there.

Non BC PS3's uses the ps2emu on Cobra.

Personally, I don't use the PSP side of the dongle because the working games suck, IMO.

I wasn't aware there were ANY legitimate files on the dongle that actually worked, I thought it was all on the CFW side that Cobra dongle was just like TrueBlue and the installed CFW did the work and all the dongle did was verify to the CFW that it was there.

Thanks for the information, can't wait 'til the first/last DRM dongle finally gets cracked and made obsolete completely.

Yeah Cobra uses the same ps2emu in your PS3.
Oh and I agree. I'm waiting for the features to get implemented in a 4.2x MFW also.

I'd ****ing love the cobra features without the dongle. I only have two USB Ports all else aside, so I wouldnt even have room for it.

Anyway,
Dont ever expect successful PS2 emulation on non backwards compatible systems. Even Sony gave up on that idea, which is most likely why - even though there is a PS2 emulator made by Sony on the non-backwards compatible PS3's - that they still cannot play ps2 games.
The PS3 simply wasnt made to emulate the graphics synthesizer and/or emotion engine of the PS2. I think it was @Squarepusher2 that made a quite detailed post, about why this was being the case and why it was unfeasible.


I'd love PSP playback and well, perhaps even more, the capability to play both PS1,(PS2), PS3, PSP from a network accessed storage :D
